Why am I not surprised?

Well, at least Jimmy Kimmel was there to hit home the message that the Oscars are a big joke. -a bunch of self-important yahoos looking for a virtue signaling venue. :)

astrochex 02-27-2017 04:10 AM

So who would have bet Suicide Squad would be an Oscar winner?

Loved Kimmel's bit bringing the tour bus participants into the theatre. Genuine surprise going on there.

From what the news reported this morning.....they handed him and her (Faye) the WRONG ENVELOPE!

Not Beatty's fault.....

Dear Hollywood: Karma is a *****.... :D

Yeah, not their fault. On another note, Halle Berry again shows she's a class act, in a world of bimbos and bimbettes. Scarlet Jo too, IMO

My guess it was a device to drum up interest in an even about which not a lot of people GAFF.

BeyGon 02-27-2017 06:39 AM

why would they have different envelopes, they know days ahead, they print this stuff up, there just isn't any excuse for doing it. Maybe Trump did it, I didn't watch but hear he got blamed for everything, he hacked the Oscars too. Good job President Trump.

widgeon13 02-27-2017 06:44 AM

Don't know what sucked more, Oscars or Daytona 500??

Hugh R 02-27-2017 07:17 AM

Done with it for today. I'm getting too old to do back-to-back night work. I just don't get up too smiley at 2:00 AM. Same reason I'm backing off of international travel for features. It was lots of fun when I was 20-30 years younger.

BTW, Jimmy Kimmel is also one of my shows. I've only chatted with him once or twice, but found him to be very sharp and lucid.

What "man" watches the Oscars any ways?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1488212629.jpg

bkreigsr 02-27-2017 07:35 AM

The commercials were better than the movies nominated - in all categories.
In a contest between the super bowl and Oscar commercials, Oscar won.
Kimmel was good with the running gag with Matt Damon carried over from his late-night, and his 'trumped up' remarks regarding Meryl were a riot.
Sorry, but I watched the whole thing - after the rerun of Columbo was over on COZIHD.

I love watching mostly mega rich celebrities give each other awards (/sarcasm) because clearly, fame and money is not enough... They need recognition and a statuette too !!! Yawn.

Good for the little people though...

I see that last year's "no diversity in awards" was quickly rectified, I'm sure it' a total coincidence. No surprises except the screw up...

Hugh R 02-27-2017 07:57 AM

The "Oscars" employ about a thousand "little people" If you include all the film crews, editors, drivers, dry cleaners, restaurant workers and me, and on-and-on, it's around a million people in the TV and film industry, in mostly good paying jobs.

Not sure what the point is, weren't you complaining about stating up late initially ? ;-) .... Hopefully that's not a huge chunk of your living, and making movies is... To me it's an award show for (mostly) people who do not need any more pats on the back for fear their egos will explode... I mentioned the little people as "not the stars" - I'm *glad* those get recognition (the effect guy, the sound guy, the costume lady, whatever, great)... Best actor ? don't much care, they are likely rich and famous already...

Give awards to ER doctors ;-)

True but when he looked down and saw, "Best Actress--Emma Stone", he should have stopped right there and looked to the wings for the correct envelope. Instead, he just decided that it meant La La Land was the best picture winner.

For someone who has been in show biz for 60 years, he really schit the bed. And Price Waterhouse's reputation is squarely in the outhouse where it belongs. Their whole rep is based on handling the Oscars balloting and handing these envelopes to dumb celebrities to read in front of a billion people. So that was a bit of a fail.

Hugh R 02-27-2017 08:16 AM

Sorry if my point wasn't clear, I don't care about the Oscars, I like that people like me and craigster and FXeditor and a few others manage to ekk out a living here.

Rusty Heap 02-27-2017 08:27 AM

props to the little guy.

anytime I watch some episode of Deadliest Catch, rock climbing documentary of Everest or other challenging images, there is a guy behind the lens and team behind getting the shot,

Hey I got no problem with these people giving each other awards, but they really do award each other a lot! Oscars, People's Choice, SAG, Golden Globes...

What I have a problem with is at the end of the day, they pretend to be someone - secret agent, assassin, maid, whore, super hero, pirate, teacher, coach etc.- and then get filmed pretending to be that person. That's it!! Granted, the ones in the front few rows at the Oscars are the best in the world at what they do and deserve all the money, fame, adulation, whatever. But that doesn't mean their opinion on world events is any more valid than the cab driver, engineer, stock broker, welder, or any other profession.

And the other problem I have is how they think they are so brave for making a movie. WTF!??! How is that brave? Go fight a war or walk a beat or run into a flaming building. Don't pretend to be someone and then call yourself brave.
