What is this ? Rain Sensor ?

I was clearing some leaves and found this. We recently moved into the house and have an irrigation system. What ever this is it is beeping about every 30 seconds. I am guessing it might be a rain sensor for the irrigation system. Not sure if the beeping sound is normal or if it is a rain sensor ??

That does not look like any rain sensor I have ever seen.



Mine looks like this and is mounted on a fence well above the ground.

Could be one of those beeping rods in the ground to deter gophers.

Looks like there is a brand name under the cover, I can't make it out. Maybe google it and see?
