Arkansas Duel

Not in Florida...

https://www.foxnews.com/us/arkansas-men-shoot-at-each-other-while-wearing-bulletproof-vests-police

Quote:
The good news is the bulletproof vests worked.

But two Arkansas men could still be in legal jeopardy after a night of drinking led them to test the vests by shooting at each other, officials said.

Charles Eugene Ferris, 50, and Christopher Hicks, 36, were arrested Sunday after Hicks showed up at a Rogers hospital complaining about chest pain.

Not wanting to reveal the true story of the backyard shootout, police said Ferris invented a lively story to explain the situation, KFSM reported.

Ferris allegedly told authorities he'd been paid $200 to protect an “asset,” whom he followed into the woods at Hobbs State Park. Ferris reportedly said that, while in the woods at about 10 p.m., the pair met a third man who approached the "asset" and prompted a gunfight. Cops say Ferris claimed to have been struck six times while returning fire and finally driving away with the “asset.”

Ferris allegedly said the “asset” dropped him off at his vehicle and the 50-year-old then dumped his weapons and drove to the hospital.

But officials say Ferris went from looking like 007 to just looking like a zero when his wife showed up at the hospital and spilled the beans: Ferris and Hicks shot each other while drinking on the back porch of their home.

Ferris then reportedly recanted his far-fetched story and told authorities he lied to protect Hicks from getting in trouble.

Police said Ferris then admitted to wearing the bulletproof vest and asking Hicks to shoot him with a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle. The vest stopped the bullet -- but it also hurt and left a mark on Ferris’ chest.

Ferris allegedly said he got angry and “unloaded the clip into Christopher’s back.” Hicks only suffered bruising from the gunshots, police said.

Both men were charged with aggravated assault and face up to six years in prison.

There is a pretty good movie with similar theme, based on Columbia/ Mexico contests.

Mickey Rouke shows up near the end of the film.

what I loved about Razor Girl, besides the fact she bumps cars for insurance with her MO being she is shaving her you know what when she hits the car, that he has a rift on Duck Dynasty that is spot on with one of the main characters

"Not in Florida"

That's funny because that's the normal assumptions these days

They must have both been Florida natives that moved recently.

To be charged with anything, wouldn't they have to be the ones pressing charges on one another? Can the authorities press charges if neither one of them want to press them?

Stupid stunt for sure, but on a serious note, aren't the authorities somewhat overstepping their authority?

When it comes to serious charges like ADW or attempted murder, the authorities don't care whether the victim wants to press charges or not. Of course, it's the city atty or DA that presses charges, not the victim.

It can complicate things if victims won't cooperate but think of all the cases where the victim is dead...they don't need the vic to prosecute. These geniuses are in a schitload of legal trouble.

My brother is a retired detective in OKC.

He was shot in the vest once and said it was like getting hit with a baseball bat. Almost a rib breaking experience.

It wasn't with a .22 though...

Of course, that makes sense. Kinda hard to ask a dead guy if he would like to press charges. I thought maybe it might be different with assault charges.

The best thing these two budding Einsteins could have dome was just STFU from the get go. Too late now. Even if they get off the hook, they are going to spend all of their beer money for the next several years doing so.

I kind of think it is a waste of taxpayer money to prosecute these guys. They both agreed to shooting each other, they are both in a lot of pain. Why punish taxpayers for their stupidity when they've punished each other.
