My new F150 has a tiny little engine in it!
Picked up a 2017 F150. You open the hood and you can barely find the motor. I mean, there's all kinds of open space everywhere! Its a little 2.7, but this thing stomps! Blows my old 5.4L trucks away. Its probably faster than my 993!
My wife got a new MBZ with a 2L turbo and I can't even believe how quick that thing is. These new little motors with turbos are pretty impressive.

I'm not sure how the long term maintenance would be, but I'd enjoy being given one of the new 4cyl Turbo Mustangs.

Now in 993 land ...

I test drove that and thought it was very impressive power out of a 2.7 in such a large vehicle. I didn't like the shifting and the body style. The ride could have been better too. I wanted max fuel economy and went with the Ram Ecodiesel. So far so good (2 years). This definitely will save you money on the long drives.

We had a 4cyl. Turbo Mustang last year as a rental in FL. It really got up and went, in Sport mode with the paddle shifters I almost enjoyed an automatic box. Wasn't very thrifty on fuel, however, since I drove it like a rental car.

I wonder how long these highly stressed motors will last in everyday driving. ,especislly with unsympathetic drivers who give full beans on a cold engine and who turn the starter and drive straight off before the oil has even had time to reach the top ebd,and who don't idle for 30 seconds after coming off the highway to cool the turbo prior to shut down.

4 bangers can be cool. Loved the 2.7 in my 01 Tacoma. I'm sure nowhere near the power of motions truck but it was a great match for the little taco. I'd love to drive an old 50's 4 cyl Ferrari.
Something about an agricultural bigger 4 is just enjoyable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Everything with towing capacity that needs the "umph" is going to get bigger as a result. They have to size the truck to the weakest link in the motor line up. I'm not sure it applies to cars, but it would also explain why the wheel base and track keep getting larger and larger on the 911. The other side to larger vehicles, is it gives more space for absorbing crash structure. Big difference here in safety ratings, especially in non frontal crashes. Compare the size of my previous daily driver with my current one. The large size does take a bit of driving fun out of the picture, especially in tight parking lots.
![]() However, I find people are also no longer running over me as if my car wasn't there. The need for serious evasion from a lane changing vehicle trying to occupy my space isn't a regular thing anymore. If they don't use blinkers, its hard to know if its just a "texting" swerve, or a poorly executed lane change. I picked up some red paint on the front of the 944 that way once. Fortunately, the 944 was already wrecked when I bought it; that one just re-arranged the pre-existing dents. Last edited by Tervuren; 03-26-2017 at 05:09 AM.. |

I have a 2013 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost and a few modifications, the thing is a rocket and an incredible tow vehicle. It drives and tows like a diesel which I love, just an effortless wave of torque.

Yep, pretty much the same reason the 991 and Boxster are so huge.

I have 13000 km on our 2.7. I thought I'd miss my BMW sedan for daily driving, but I was wrong. The F150 2.7 is a terrific truck. We haven't had any problems - though the fuel economy goes to hell if you can't keep your right foot discipline.

One tip, adding a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks will improve the ride quality and handling exponentially.

Make sure you let it idle and cool down the turbo before shut off. The oil return line will thank you. BTDT with the wife's Volvo. Killed the turbo and it was a PITA to get to.

I am thinking that this will be my first mod. Unless I go with the Fox 2.0.
