Boy, some of you sure do consider yourselves and everyone else to be subservient cattle with no rights at all.

Hmm...so United employees can show initiative not specifically spelled out in the manual.....just in the worst possible way.

Those of you who have flown Emirates or Qatar will know the difference. Their level of service is amazing. Even in coach.

Which is what you can do when you hire slave labor. https://thepointsguy.com/2015/01/insider-series-true-life-of-an-emirates-flight-attendant/

Quite the eye opener of an article.I notice how the publisher put a 100 miles of distance between them and the opinions of the author. Way to back up your employee there guys....

cairns 04-18-2017 01:41 PM

Slave labor my butt. Our neighbors have a niece who's an FA with them and she's having the time of her life. The last Captain and FO I talked to were lured away from BA and QANTAS respectively.

I don't have time or the will to counter with the thousands of UAL employees who whine about their working conditions. But the last time they went bankrupt they wiped out the pensions of their pilots a few of whom I know personally.

Emirates does not force anyone to take a job there. And they have thousands of applicants who aren't hired. Sounds like more UAL propaganda to me.

Yep. A guy hates to be exposed to facts.

having flown many miles in the middle east, Asia and Europe i can state without reservation that most major carriers in those regions exceed the extremely low bar set by US carriers. I have no knowledge of the employment policies of Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Gulf Air, Singapore, Cathay Pacific. From experience, the service is unfailingly polite, efficient and effective. All the more surprising given the conditions described in that article.

If US employees were subjected to the same treatment, suffice to say the experience of flying in the US would be worse. When I first started my international travel, i made it a point to fly US flags. But once i experienced Cathay, Singapore or even BA i realized the vast difference in attitude. It is of course silly to say that something like the passenger being pulled off the plane like United on other airlines couldn't happen, but i think given the focus on customer service, unlike US airlines, it is less likely to happen

And I will say i have been riding in the front of the bus in business class that certainly helps the ride and puts more senior staff in the cabin. Experiencing a full meal service on a flight from Doha to Dubai is quite the experience. In the US the cabin staff wouldn't even walk the aisle on such a short flight.

In the US the cabin staff at times can barely fit down the aisles. I can't begin to count the number of times the cabin crew I've seen are too large to walk down the aisle without turning sideways. I like to sit in aisle seats and the number of times I've been bumped into by a large FA is again far to numerous to count.

In addition to that is the attitude that is less then stellar. Like most other service industry positions in the US its as though they are doing us a favor and have lost sight of the fact that their positions exist to service the paying customer.

This obviously is not a universal observation but is more often than not the caset.

Flew Business to Auckland and then Brisbane on NZ the service was excellent. The lay down flat Recaro seat/beds were top notch. Flew from LAX to Heathrow a few months ago via' UAL it sucked they still had the old fashioned tilt back seats. $6,000 for that crap.

What is wrong with you guys?

The President said "Make America Great Again" and all you do is complain about high cost and inferior product/service... "Sad"

This morning boarding a united flight, the boarding announcement ended with 'Thanks for flying the friendly SKIS'.

Skis? WTF? It is snowing out but?

Has anyone flown Turkish Airlines? I need to go to India in June and they have the best business class price.

I've heard they show some interesting gladiator movies for the in-flight entertainment... :D

Deschodt 04-24-2017 11:58 AM

Had that happen yesterday on my flight (Virgin, supposedly good, ha)... They pulled out a lady (and her husband went with) to make room for a pilot that needed to be moved. She was crying (because we'd been cancelled, rebooked, and delayed for a total of about 5 hours, and she's just made that flight) - but at least they did it professionally...

We're just cattle now... They outright cancelled my flight with zero warning until I tried to check in, no texts, nothing... I will drive anywhere <8 hours instead nowadays...

James / Redbeard-
A colleague of mine will go out of his way to fly Turkish airlines.
We returned from Geneva a couple weeks back.
Instead of LOT biz class, he took Turkish, despite adding a few hours on the first leg.
My schedule was different, or I would have tried it.

Hope your experience is good, whoever you fly.

Good coffee and towels. Prisons, not so much.
