I'm just glad that the mistreatment of passengers is finally getting notice.

I think one thing that confuses passengers is that they are basically told to follow airline guidance on everything--unless you want to switch seats, then they want you to negotiate that with other passengers and not involve them. But taking an empty seat--especially one that the airline charges a premium for--is a big no-no. They would rather those seats sit empty than someone not pony up extra for them. But the airline will treat you like you violated an FAA rule if you sit in an empty, premium seat.

What I'd personally like to see is a change in the seating costs.

Started a few years back where aisle seats, even in coach, were priced higher than middle seats.

OK I get it they are more desirable so why not try to get some extra coin.

What chaps my ass is when flying with the family and you have young children, if you want to sit together as a family you are forced to pony up for the higher cost seats.

If you don't your kids end up sitting next to god knows who.

Also not fair to the other passengers who might get stuck with the kids if sitting as a family is not in the budget.

There should be an exception for that.

Excepting of course if the flight crew encourages it. :)
I was chaperoning a group of high school kids on a trip to the UK. The British Air flight returning state side from London ito Houston was diverted to New Orleans because we ran out of fuel making loops over the Gulf waiting for thunder storms to clear off of the airport in Houston. The crew timed out before we were fueled up and BA had no extra crews hanging around New Orleans. So we had to spend the night there until the crew had rested up. Most of the passengers made other arrangements like renting cars to get to Houston that night so when we got back on the 777, it was over half empty. After we were in the air on the short hop over to Houston, the flight attendants told the kids they could move to any seat they wanted. They had fun hiding in the "cocoon" first class seats with the personal entertainment systems and all. I toughed it out and stayed in my assigned seat.

Remember the days when flights had open bars and you could sit anywhere?
You could even smoke!

cairns 04-26-2017 09:49 AM

Yes I do. Back then being an FA was a temporary job and a chance to travel not a career.

Not a US carrier = passengers not treated like cattle.

Yea, I remember the BAD old days of smoking flights. I always ended up in the "non smoking" section one row away for the smokers. Somehow that smoke never stayed in the back and it stank up the entire plane.

My dad talked about a flight on Pan Am back in the days of regulation. If a flight was scheduled it was going to go no matter how full it was. He was on a 747 from NYC to LA and there were just 12 passengers. As soon as they closed the doors the flight crew announced to all the passengers to please come up to first class so they did not have to roam all of the airplane. Dad had a stew of his own and they played cards and he got the first class treatment. I wonder how much Pan Am lost on just that flight?

I just saw this somewhere, maybe in that Rabbit article.

Dr. Dao sustained a broken nose, a concussion, two knocked-out teeth and sinus problems that could require reconstructive surgery, his lawyer said a few days later.

And to that I say BULL**IT.

Korean Airlines has an awesome bar upstairs in its A380!

You will be breathing cigarette smoke on any China Eastern or China Southern flight, whether domestic or international.

Jupp, never see such things here in Europe, and the seats are not priced differently.

Destroying guitars wasn't enough for them. In yet another hare raising experience for UAL passengers, the airline has now killed the largest rabbit in the world.
