Not a good day for the red cars. Wow.
|
Wow!
I sneaked home from work to watch the start of today's race. Holy doodle!! What a start!
They'll be talking about this one for awhile. |
I think this year's driver title was settled in turn 1.

That ****ing kid has a lot of talent but I'm getting real tired of him and some of his performances.
Alonso has more money than he could cram into his jet but if he spent all of it, he still couldn't buy a break. Yet another brilliant start from him, and he gets torpedoed. I bet he could've been on the podium today. |

Nothing he could do...
Yeah, except maybe breathe the throttle for about a half a second. He tries too ****ing hard to win the race at the first corner, or take risks that aren't worth taking. He needs to be taught that sometimes waiting another corner, or another lap, is a better decision. He needs to watch endless reruns of Alonso's starts. That guy starts better than anyone and seldom puts a foot wrong. There's a right way, and a wrong way, to make up positions at the start of the race. I'm really annoyed with his post race comments. He's actually happy that he took both Ferraris out, too. |
I'm no Verstappen fan, but this one was not his fault. If anything, I think Vettel set off the chain of events. Verstappen had a bad start, was going straight, and was the victim of some bumper car action by the Ferraris. If you are overtaking a slower car, you need not to hit it. Verstappen didn't make any erratic moves (this time).
With that said, I think Ferrari and Vettel, barring something unexpected, have probably secured their respective places in the championship. |
I have to respectfully disagree. Vettel was nearly a full car length ahead of him and Max knew which side of the track that Vettel was going to head for when approaching the corner. All he had to do was back out of the throttle, even partially, for maybe half a second. He wasn't going to win the corner from Vettel, if he tucked in behind him he probably would've been second coming out of the first corner, worst case third.

It looked to me Verstappen went left to try to keep Kimi from going up the inside. Too late obviously. Vettel did pretty much what everyone does from pole.

Yeah, I wound it back a little further and re-watched. For some reason I had it in my head that Verstappen started ahead of Raikonnen and Vettel. Nope, he was dive-bombing into another corner.

Why does the pole winner start in the outside lane? Is it assigned or can they choose?

Can't say I am anything but delighted with the result for Ferrari, Vettel is one of the worst in F1 (note his penalty record), second only to Schumacher in the dirty driving league. Perhaps it is just that Ferrari has a culture of dirty deeds....infects all who enter. Happy dance, but very sad for Verstappen and perhaps Kimi, both deserved better than being screwed up by Vettel the Ponce. Dennis |
Vettel started the melee with his agressive blocking. Verstappen was too stubborn to back off, as usual. Kimis great start was a victim of Verstappens lack of awareness.
Horrible situation for Ferrari. |

I blame Pastor Maldonado.

Given the difference in quali pace, I would have thought Ric could have brought a fight to Ham. Poor Alonso. |
