I somewhat baffle myself feeling more and more positive toward Lewis. Both on and off track.

Photo of Vettel blaming Verstappen and describing the crash...

Hamilton has never been my favorite driver but as he has more experience starting from that position than ANYONE I'll go with HIS assessment.

IMO, a lot of the moves that some of the drivers do that people say are "dirty" or "aggressive", would be considered racing in a different era.
I just find it odd how people reminisce of the old days and the V12, V10 or V8 era as somehow greatly superior, but bash current drivers in a way that passed drivers are praised. |

I think Max got into Seb's head. If I don't cut him off at the start, he'll try to take me out at turn 1.

I did an internet search and couldn't find a single example of Vettel blaming Max for this accident...... Conversely, Max is running his mouth ad nauseam. |
Like we didn't need more proof that Hammy is a knob, here he is with football great Neymar and a Sun article discussing his after racing 'music career':

Regardless of fault, I honestly think that if it had been Hamilton or Ricciardo or Bottas or Alonso or anyone else in P2 on the grid, there would have been no crash. Even if Verstappen didn't make an idiot move this time, he was in Raikonnen's and Vettel's heads and they felt the need to aggressively defend the first corner.
If memory serves me correctly, Verstappen has crashed out something like 50% of the races this season on the first corner. He has talent, but he doesn't finish races and get points. If I were Red Bull, I'd be thinking about another driver. |
I honestly think that Lewis is a pretty lonely guy. His fame brings him an endless parade of superficial friends. He had a seven-year on again/off again relationship with Nicole Scherzinger that as I understand it, ended after he proposed to her (right after he won his second WDC). I honestly think that his public persona is a way for him to distract himself. I also think he'll become a very different person after he retires from racing.

Then as you point out the endless parade of 'celebrity' friends that show up to see him, err I mean get on camera at a race (Lindsey Vonn, Venus and or Serena Williams, Justin Beiber). Hugging the Beibes in Monaco says it all ;) Interesting that Vonn shows up to support him but she is a Red Bull athlete. On a side note, my wife and daughter have tried to convince me that the Beibes new music is good. I just can't do it. In my mind he is still the little punk that needs a beating (not by me of course and allegedly). :D |

So redbull is RB-Aston Martin now... you know, those folks who are such experts at engines in the past 20y that they generally buy them from other manufacturers ;-)
Looks like the plan is developing... RB owner wants to get out of F1 but the penalties are too high. So Honda for Toro rosso means big savings. And if honda wouln't mind buying the team off him he would be happy. If the engine becomes good, RB was also going to get it and ditched renault, but now it's unclear if they're going to build something new or rebadge whatever they are running? Horner is trying to gather $$$ to buy the team for himself, with Newey, apparently... I would not be surprised if renault came good next year, team and engine. They have ruled F1 with Williams and Benetton, a company does not forget how to built engines. Then again ALO might stay with MacLAren and his bad luck could mean another turd of an engine ;-) |
The RB Aston Martin thing is truly confusing. The general consensus was that Toro Rosso was to have Honda engine as a design platform for getting that POS ready for Red Bull senior team. So what now??
Not to mention that Aston Martin does not have small V6 twin turbo with electric assist engines. This should be interesting. Or maybe its just like the "Tag Heuer" engines that were just a badge. |

Yup.. I think for now AM will be engineering stickers to put on the Renault engine which I think they will still run in 2018.Then IF the rules for the new engine are simplified, something porsche and others have asked for, maybe they will build it in house at RBR with some Aston help... ???
Mateschitz really wants out now... that's all Horner planning his buyout. So I've totally given up hope of a ferrari comeback now, which means they'll win in malaysia ;-) |

But I just looked it up and we both are wrong. (you were more right than me though) Up until the current 5.2 litre V12, AM were using AMG engines and were supposed to do so for the foreseeable future. However, Aston Martin launched their own engine in 2016 that had been in development since 2011. So now we know. I should be able to sleep tonight :) |
