This season is going to be a nail-biter. I don't think I've ever seen Hamilton so exhausted (or work his butt off quite this much).

Vettel and Hamilton seem so close this season, that a race victory seems to come down to a single race mistake or pitting one lap too late or too early.

Thank you for that, I should have gotten that on my own. Thanks again.

PS: On a different topic, isn't it great that the officials seem more sensible on penalties, and mostly didn't hand any out?

Absolutely.

Great races this season front and mid-pack. Poor Ricciardo though, he ran with a clear minute front and back. Would have been even more amazing if Bottas and Kimi could have stayed in.

I thought this was pretty awesome!

That was indeed cool of Ferrari and Kimi.... Good to see the new fan friendly spirit in F1.

Bottas singlehandedly trashed Ferrari's race this weekend... Vettel really go screwed following hims, he lost over 4 seconds of his lead to HAM behind him before "that pass" and got big tire wear in the process.. Not that Bottas shouldn't have (well played Merc, Bottas also admitted it), but that's what happens when Kimi is taken out (also due to Bottas) and cannot do the same to Lewis to even the score...

I'm still so certain Mercedes/HAM will win the WC this that I'm tuning into a Ferrari hopeful, I would have liked to see Vettel pull that one off...

How about the talk of Vettel going to Merc year? Replay of the Prost/Senna season.

legion 05-15-2017 08:12 AM

I don't know why Vettel would go to Merc. He's doing just fine where he is and has the most loyal fanbase in F1 behind him.

Bottas did help give Hamilton the win. Raikonnen would have done the same for Vettel. It's clear it is a team effort to win.

The little kid getting to meet Raikonnen was the coolest moment during the race. If F1 is smart, they will allow for more moments like this.

I imagine that Vettel had some clause that said he could jump ship if Ferrari didn't provide him with a competitive car. Now that he has one, I can't imagine him moving teams.

As far as the kid, great move by F1. Liberty Media realizes that the fans are what make the sport possible, whereas Bernie spent too many years believing that the it was a privilege for the fans to attend or watch a race, and if they didn't like what was happening, bugger off! Hopefully that won't lead to mystery cautions like Nascar to artificially bunch up the field.

Ferrari are no strangers to this, a little less known story, I follow this kid on Instagram, his name is Sam. How I found Sam was when he got to meet his hero 2 years ago, Sebastian Vettel. Sam has Vanishing White Matter disease, cannot walk and is terminal. He is a huge F1 fan (I am sure parent influence) and Vettel fan. Ferrari and Vettel arranged for the boy to have full pit access during the Austin race 2 years ago. Crazy how this had almost no coverage and the Kimi thing was all over the place. Here is a pic of Seb meeting Sam, picking the lad up and putting him in his car.

I hope we see more of this kind of stuff in F1, it seems it has been going on all along, for whatever reason (Bernie I am looking at you) we barely saw it.

Bottas = blocking douchebag.

If there's any justice kimi will put him into the armco at Monaco. HARD.

Racers race. That's what they do.

It was the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola in Italy. I had qualified in second just behind Kimi Räikkönen the day before. But Sunday morning, my team, Renault, had an issue with our car. One of our V-10 cylinders wasn’t working. We basically had a 9½ cylinder engine, which is not ideal. The power input was down from the engine — essentially we were slower. We considered replacing the engine with a new one, which would have resulted in a penalty and put us at the back of the grid for the race start. Or, we could stick with it and take whatever result came.

We stuck with it.

Just nine laps into the race, Kimi retired due to a driveshaft issue in his car. I led for the next 50 laps. The car felt good. A little less power than usual, but I was in a rhythm. With 12 laps to go and still in the lead, I went into the pits for fresh tires. When I got back on the track, I looked in my mirrors, and all I saw was bright red. Ferrari red. Michael Schumacher was pushing me hard. He had more power that day and … yeah, he was so fast.

But I relied on my memories, on what I had learned. I knew the track. I knew the car.

I adapted. I tried to keep him behind me at all costs. It was as much a mental battle as physical. Michael was diving at me every few corners, trying to get a young kid to make a mistake.

But I didn’t. I held on for the win, and even now, that is maybe my favorite race I’ve ever driven. Or at least it’s up there. (It’s hard to just have one.) I remember it so fondly because my team and I overcame the odds from the morning and used all of our ability to get that win. It wasn’t like any other race I had really ever driven. It was totally new.
I remember this battle well, I remember it because I was cursing at Alonso, it took me years to realize how brilliant he was driving. Even more so now that I know his car was not 100%. He was making his car 20 feet wide and he was also brake checking Michael into the corners in order to force him to lose momentum and not be able to use his HP and pounce on the way out.

It is probably the most memorable drives Alonso ever drove in my opinion. He slayed a giant.

Thanks for sharing that article Deschodt.

Oh my, Pastor Maldanado is claiming he was offered a drive this year but turned it down since he could not be guaranteed competitiveness of the car. I'm sure it was in the back of the grid if at all.

Fav quote: "If I do something, I do it right."

You mean like crashing at every opportunity? Knob.
