What are your thoughts on the all new manual 991.2 911 GT3?
As I'm sure many of you know the 991.2 GT3 is now offered in a manual transmission. What are your thoughts of the all new 991.2 911 GT3 manual transmission? Do you think this will affect the value of the 911R? Or any other Porsche values? Even though it's reported that the 0-60 time for the manual is .5 seconds slower than its PDK version, would you opt for the manual six-speed gearbox over PDK? Share your thoughts below!

There are a few places autocrossing that using the clutch and not quite rev matching you can go faster through a chicane.

That's the only new Porsche that I would buy. You know, if I win the lottery or something.

Yea, they are so far out of my comfortable price range I don't much care about them. I can admire them but I will keep my 32 year old paid for, going UP in value air cooled toy. That new 911 will lose more in value in a few years than my 911 is even worth.

First..... D@mn what a car.
Second...... I think the 991.1 will take the hit. The 4.0L motor is a significant design upgrade that should depreciate the first series cars. The 991.2 owner will be able to chose. The question could be worded which version will sell the greater number of cars..... Here is the PDK.... https://www.pca.org/news/2017-04-28/video-watch-new-911-gt3-tear-it-track Last edited by Macroni; 05-01-2017 at 12:12 PM.. |

I can't afford it and don't know how to use a PDK, so I'd have to pick the manual trans if i win the lottery.

I think that 911R is going to drop in value by about 50%, IMHO.

You keep the Macan, save for the GT3 and I'll alleviate the burden of such an old, neglected, tired car ![]() Kidding of course. BTW, seeing your 911 in person was neat. That car has, and I know you'll hate this, a certain something. It has a presence.

I'm all about shifting and enjoying the visceral feeling just as much as anybody else on here, but I rented a new GT3 PDK at the Porsche Driving Exp a few weeks ago and I am SOLD on the PDK.. It is a total riot and kick a$$ car to drive. In Sport mode, the shifts are FIRM and fast. There is NO way you can shift better than it can. Full throttle red-line launch control is ridiculous. Turn the traction control off and you leave a 200 ft burnt out through the first three gears without a miss.

I'd rather have a 997 GT3...
I think Porsche lost some of the "sports car" mentality in the 991 series

While a nice piece of kit the PDK can be stressed enough on track to leak out of a certain weep hole. The fix is a new PDK. Costs roughly the same as a nice used 87-89 Carrera to repair if it's out of warranty.
The manual trans can be repaired with somewhat simple tools and some willpower.

I love a manual transmission but having driven a few cars with double clutch gearboxes I think it would be a hard decision for me if I were buying a new 911 on which way to go. PDK might actually be my choice.
I can't believe I would choose that having been a manual guy all my life but the ultra fast shifts are pretty addicting.

Keep improving
I enjoyed all my early aircooled Porsches from new 356B onwards to current 997.2.
At the time I enjoyed the stick shift, air cooling and othe idiosincracies. PDK, DFI, PASM, disc brakes, GPS etc.are all improvements to my driving pleasure Why would I want to go back? Thank you Porsche for better cars every year! |

Porsche just put the 911R closer to the non-billionaire's reach. Go to the Porsche website, build a GT3 and select the Touring Package. Now I just gotta find $150k
