Photographer friend with a lumens meter?
That would qualify "too bright". A couple smaller lights for them would be more efficient than a single sun. |
i would never shoot anything at a neighbor's house.

20 years ago someone moved in a house down the street, gated community of 25 homes, no street lights. He put a light over his garage door that shown out on to the street, I swear it must have been a carbon arc lamp. After about four days of complaining, I was the HOA president, and went and spoke to him and explained it was a pretty friendly community and we watch out for each other, for example I did a map of the neighborhood showing where everyone's water, gas and electrical shutoffs were located in case of fire, earthquake, etc.
He took it down pretty quick after that. |

I guess he's not living in a sand castle so this wouldn't work. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YSf-ZfvILvc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

As wimpy as they are, shooting at a home is not conceivable. Walk over with a ball peen. Wear a face shield. Bust and run. Jail time would be much less. |
Wait for the neighbors to go off somewhere and re-aim the light to shine down into his yard instead of across the street. I bet he would never notice the change! Good luck.

If going to do something...
Put up a light or lights with it/them mounted and adjusted so they light only your yard/property, AND DO NOT light the offending neighbor's yard/property. Then kindly offer to adjust the offending neighbors lights using yours as examples. Be sure to talk to them at night so you can show the difference. Only if the neighbor then refuses to do anything about the light or let you...Refit your lights with the highest candle power available and aim directly at the offending neighbors windows. That way the neighbor knows you could adjust your lights so as not to offend them and are specifically targeting them because they do not have and consideration of you. Otherwise the neighbor might just think you are putting lights up like they did and think nothing about it. |
How many liters of blood have been shed throughout history because two men refused to communicate?
Go over and talk to the gent. Simple situation. If the hackles go up, give it some time and approach a different way. Divert a river and let it do the digging for you. |

Hey Baz... do they wait until they're both home and in the house before they turn that thing on? I bet they do. Otherwise, it would be slamming them in the face as they pull into their driveway. I guess they could use their sunvisors to mitigate that if it was already on, however. :D |

Aiming the light might have never entered his mind when he put it up. |
I believe a lot of people are totally unconscious of their surroundings. He simply doesn't know or even understand what he has done. I have a couple of neighbors like this, one has an ATV for which the taillight assembly fell off in front of my yard, I sat the taillight by his mailbox for him to retrieve and replace......the taillight sat there for 6 weeks......I eventually went over and picked it up and put it in his trash. Clueless.....

on a side note. my brother's SWAT team has a sniper silenced .22..the sole purpose of that rifle is to shoot out lights when they sneak up to a perps house for the dark-thirty wake up call. i think he meant street lights..i'm gonna ask if they shoot out private lights..
that thing was surgical accurate and giddy fun..i wanted to steal it. |

"Doesn't look like anything has changed since our conversation a few days ago." was the crux of the conversation. It specifies that he spoke with the husband, and afterwards there was no action taken. But there was also specific language identifying that that the neighbors were also porch monkeys infected by (an especially virulent strand of)southernbumblefk Idontgiveadamnitis, well marinated in a stew of inexpensive chemical beverages, along with one of the parties being vulnerable to random emotional outbursts from simple conversation. -Perhaps "Go over and talk to the gent." applies in such a case. The guy didn't get it the first time. -Perhaps there were extenuating circumstances on his part involved while the conversation took place. -So before taking the communal consensus advice of flamethrowers and radar aimed miniguns, talking to [him][sober] was a valid suggestion. As noted above, nothing had changed quickly, as is common and commonly accepted in some parts of the world. "If the hackles go up, give it some time and approach a different way. Divert a river and let it do the digging for you." implies the OP should talk to the wife if all else fails with the husband. But never before. The wife will be the mitigating factor ultimately. But going through a well-oiled chain of command procedures will give the OP recognition of doing the right thing for whatever that is worth in the future with his neighbor. |
