Will he let you put a small shade on it to kill the glare globe view from your house?
Just test it for a couple nights, it should not change the light pattern on his property.
Piece of 4 inch wide tin/light deflector you could bend to fit the light pastern you both want.

Have the same thing a misdirected light source across the canyon.
In the fog the light pattern is adjusted more like an aircraft landing light. :)

Thanks again for all suggestions and comments.

I have had short interactions with my neighbor since asking about his light but no response or followup from him other than the usual " How's it going?" that neighbors say to each other.

Not surprising - don't want to get into a long diatribe but we've been neighbors for 21 years come July and I pretty much know their personalities and I have done as much as I can do wrt talking so I will now be moving forward with my own security lighting.

I took the light I bought from HD back because it wasn't what I expected once I took it out of the box. Yesterday I received 2 of these that I picked up on eBay that are more what I was looking for. Going to do the install later today.

I don't expect there to be any fireworks between the neighbors and I. If something is said to me about my lights, I will adjust...but I doubt anything will be said. I feel that the ball was in their court and they didn't make the shot so what ever happens is on them.

Again, the lights I am installing is not payback - they are so I can see better, given the distracting spotlight coming my way form across the street.

Will followup after install with more pics....

and there you have it.

It's too bad you couldn't pay your electrician buddy to go back to them and make up some sort of excuse (I need to check the fuse) or something to get up and adjust the lights.

And the neighbor will know that and not think any differently so no risk of escalating a situation you are trying to avoid escalating?

Not that you care what I think but the above phrase isn't very believable. Looks like retribution and your statement sounds like plausible deniability.

Good idea but once I discussed the situation with neighbor....cat was out of the bag. In fact - once I brought my concern to his attention - my options became very limited, if I want to maintain civility - which I do.

Correct. "Hey Alex.....how do you like my new security lights? I have to hand it to you...great idea! Now we can both sleep better at night with our combined illumination efforts!"

"Oh and by the way....please let me know if they are shining too brightly in your direction. Be happy to attempt adjustment."

I agree.

And I DO care what you think, Joe. I really do! :)

Will be going out soon to do the install...perfect night for it....

BTW....I have had twin security lights on both front corners of my garage for years.....traditional halogen flood lamps...both sets pointed sideways

All I am doing is upgrading to LED versions....and tweaking the direction they will be pointing....

Baz,
I'm too lazy today to read the first 3 pages of this...but have you politely asked your neighbor to make some lighting adjustment so that their lights don't intrude upon your life?
I mean have you said something to them like: "Your yard lights are impacting my experience of being your good neighbor. Might I suggest an adjustment that we both can live with?"
.
Or some such statement and request?

Hey Don....all you have to do is read my first post and you'll have your answer.

Thanks! SmileWavy

Don Ro 05-31-2017 02:46 PM

OK, I did.
.
"I waited for the right opportunity to mention to the husband that their new flood light was blinding me and thus very annoying and asked if he could try to adjust it so it doesn't blind me."
.
So when you asked him what was his response? What did he say to you?

KFC911 05-31-2017 02:58 PM

Baz, I hope your neighbor doesn't have a VERY accurate Diana air rifle like I have.

Were you shooting at my house?

Naw...I didn't hit your house :)

In the still of the night, I bet you can hear the sound of German bombers approaching from just behind his house!

Its a good thing that Baz and his neighbor aren't in control of nuclear weapons. We'd have to broker a SALT treaty.

And when he complains the sound of the diesel will drowned him out....

ted 06-01-2017 05:26 AM

Nice flood lights.
I prefer them motion controlled so I know when something is in my driveway.
They do lack ambiance.

For all night illumination I prefer these low voltage LED lights.
