A day at the track with Jack Olsen

During my recent trip to Los Angeles, I was lucky enough to be invited to Willow Springs with Jack Olsen.

It's a nice quick summary of a track day for someone who doesn't go very often. Jack's car seems to be working very well as usual.

I'd think that Jack would be sick of countless non-compition laps around that non-technical track by now.

I think Jack would argue that it it not a 'non-technical track'. The basics may be, but getting it perfect is a different story.

Thanks mate. I can watch hours of track footage, but it is quite hard to make a track video that keeps a larger audience interested.

Mate, great vid...you should have gotten into the filming biz...looked like great fun.

I appreciate Jacks focus....very martial art like in its repetition and seeking perfection.

That is a great way of putting it. It is very much like martial arts.

As for getting into the filming biz. Filming and editing, to try to make something reasonably watchable, is a crazy amount of work. The editing for that video probably took 6 or 7 hours. I have gotten to a stage were my weekly videos only take me around 3 hours to edit. I could see how doing it all day every day could get very tedious.

Great video. Jack is a great guy. We've only met briefly a couple of times, and I've only driven Willow a couple of times - you were privileged to be able to combine the two for what had to be a very fun day.

Okay, what the heck was that flash of blue?

How big of a difference if the approximately 200 lb passenger was removed?

Nice video, thank you for posting it.

In a 911 the extra 200lbs just makes the car boggy.
Imho it is actually easier to drive as it does everything slower.
The extra weight takes some extra pressure on the brake pedal to get it slowed.

The real benefit of not having a passenger in the car is that the driver is then unleashed.
Without a passenger you can drive at your limits instead of being concerned with your riders well being.

I agree, and may I add that a poor passenger which shifts their weigh around at exactly the wrong moment (car, motorcycle, hovercraft, aircraft, boat...the list goes on) is prone to ruining a perfectly good day.

It looks like Jack had a good well behaved passenger though.

Most times I would rather have a few bags of dead weight sand in my front passenger seat than some bouncing around idiot trying to get something out of their arse pocket in the middle of a tight turn.

At a local AX years ago as I headed into the AX esses section it appeared my passenger's shoulder belts were loose?
Nope just her ample chest acting as a G meter, bouncing off the door and my right shoulder.
