Interesting scam. Almost got me..

A couple days ago i got a very convincing call from supposedly the Sheriffs dept that there was a warrant for my arrest for contempt of court for not showing up for jury duty. He had warrant numbers, a badge number and sounded very official. I told him I knew nothing about this. He said I had signed for a warrant. Not true. I was with Mj at the hospital that whole day. I said I'm coming down to the sheriff dept right now to settle this and see that signature. He said I would be arrested immediately. But I could avoid this if I put the fines, $3000 in an escrow account and they would settle it today. If I could secure the funds. At that point I became suspicious. I told him I would have to contact my bank and my attorney and call him back. He said I had 10 minutes and he would dispatch a deputy to arrest me. I hung up and called the sheriff. ITS A SCAM!!! Don't fall for it.
I called back. He answered with his fake Sargents name. I told him I had talked to the sheriff and he could kiss my ass. He said he was sending the deputies to arrest me. I said great. The state police will be here waiting.

Must be a kinda common scam - I got the same call several months ago. I told him "I just got out after 20 years for the last guy I killed and I'm not going back" and that he "would never take me alive".

Imagine how frightening that would be for someone of more tenuous circumstances.

Wonder if there is a way to work with LE to draw the guy out. Imagine all the cases where the scam worked. Probably though LE doesnt have time because they're too busy dispatching deputies to arrest 'jury jumpers'.

Whenever I have something like that I always say both my wife and I are unable to drive but we have plenty of cash to pay for it but they'll have to come by to get it. I give them the address of my neighbor right up the street of a San Diego police LT who told me he would love to meet people like that! So far no visitors?

Yup, got that one as well, claiming we owed a good deal in back taxes and fines. Lucky for us, we could just give them a credit card number over the phone to take care of it. Gave them a similar response - "I'll kill the first revenuer that sets foot on my property".

Had a chrome pop up/upgrade that almost got me.
For the phone call from the police tell the man on the phone that you are tired, broke and hungry and that you are looking forward to 3 square meals a day.

As a Linux admin I look forward to these. Of course, I don't watch TV and I've binge-read through several authors so I've needed a new set of entertainment lately...

Last one that called I kept him on the phone for an hour.

I stumbled upon a few YouTube videos of scammers posing as IRS strung along on the phone. Mildly entertaining, but I wouldn't spend an hour on the phone with these guys unless I can get them to show up so I can shoot them.

Edit: here's one with an LEO: https://youtu.be/8NvJ6Ns142c

I had a similar call only the liar said he was with the IRS and they were coming to arrest me. I told him to bring the best swat team because I will make the Waco siege look like a party. They have yet to show up.
