Nice score!!
I am heading out to dinner this evening, the restaurant is next door to a really cool mom and pop liquor store called Roy's Liqueurs and Boozgeois Saloon. They tend to carry Elijah Craig there, my plan is to swing in after dinner and grab a bottle, hope they have something rare like that.

Ive actually had the bottle for a while. But it was a lucky one! Lately I have been buying store picks to make it interesting. Some are better than the regular product and some definitely are not...

Well, the whole freekin thing came down today. Weird that they didn't stabilize it and/or try to offload the barrels.

You guys are a bad influence!
I always drink my Bourbon straight up. Is it better with an ice cube or a splash of water, I hear a lot about the water. Good or bad?

Just cracked a Four Roses store pick and a bottle of Stag Jr. The stag was 130 proof and very good. But definitely needs an ice cube.

I like it neat or with a couple cubes.
The corn likker I think is better neat but the other nectar of the copper can go either way. As they say a cube opens the flavor up. |

But cube(s) are also diluting the alcohol and lowering the temperature, both which change the taste.
To each his/her own.

A few years ago I took a class on whiskeys at the Institute for Culinary Education in Manhattan.
Both the instructors and the brand reps all said that whiskeys should be drunk with enough water to lessen the burn and increase (open) the flavor. Works for me. https://www.forbes.com/sites/samlemonick/2017/08/18/yes-you-should-put-water-in-your-whiskey/#7a616982ff60

At every bourbon distillery tasting I've been to, the advice has been, add water. They've explained the whys and hows, but I haven't really paid close attention since I drink all of them on the rocks anyway. Which results in a variable taste with each sip as the ice melts.

At 130 proof, I welcome the bit of water you get from an ice cube! The Stagg Jr definitely lives up to the hype.
If I end up with a bottle of my own I'd probably experiment with an eye dropper of room temp water so you aren't chilling the booze. Since I typically drink neat it might be an interesting experiment.

I find a little water or ice goes a long way. Don't want to drown the whiskey or bourbon but let it breath a bit.
A good friend had some glacial ice sent to him which we use when sipping a wee dram or two. Completely pretentious and absolutely appropriate.

So, what would be a good ratio of water/bourbon?
I earmarked the bottle Vash posted but also a huge woodford. Been on a health kick so haven't had Bourbon in a year or three.

At the distilleries, you add water with an eyedropper. So it's typically just a few drops of water.
