I don't think they had to go back 30 years to find something that the Macan could beat. Frankly, it's faster than anything Porsche sold in 1987 and probably faster than most, if not all, cars they sold in the ensuing 10 years.

In a straight line for sure. Around a track is completely different. Heck my wife's Volvo T6P* would smoke my 996 in a straight line and might even give a 996/997TT a run for it's money until the first turn.

A better comparison would be a current base model 991 to a Macan GTS or Turbo.

I remember when the cayenne came out, I think there was a test where the cayenne turbo beat a stock 3.2 L carrera around an autocross course. I suspect the only '87 Porsche that would have had a chance against that Macan was a 930.

Having owned multiple 930's for decades, I can assure you that none of them had a chance against that particular Macan on that particular track. A stock 930 is a very poor track tool. I came to that conclusion years ago.

Not a chance... The chassis is 30 years younger
it has AWD
Launch control
PDK
PSM
TC
ABS
Electronic steering assist
Bigger brake disk & calipers.
And it has 80 more horses
better power curve

probably has that new turn assist where they literally brake The inside wheel to make it turn faster as well.

Apples & walnuts really

I've never pronounced it....but when I see it written...you'd have to be a mind reader to know that I was ignorant!

My 911 is a "porchy", or a "porsky".... depending on my mood and who I'm trying to disimpress .

That video makes me sad. Could he have driven slower on the track in either of those cars?

He only drove slow when he was filming the part where he talked to the passenger. When he went out by himself to set a time, he was hustling pretty good. David Donahue knows how to drive...

Comparing a Macan to an aircooled 911 or 930 is analogous to saying that a PT Cruiser is cut from the same cloth as a Hemi Cuda.

They are different cars, built for a different crowd, in a different era. Not even a shred of similarity to the hand built cars that built the Porsche Marque.

You can fit 5 people in the Cayenne comfortably but not in the Macan. I can also lay my freakishly tall road bike in the back of the Cayenne without removing the wheels which you can't do in the Macan.
I did the Porsche driving experience a few weeks back. I drove the Macan GTS Panamera 4S, Cayman 718S, 991S and 991GTS. No doubt the newer cars are quite capable but I walked away liking only the Macan. The Panamera is impressive especially with a pro driver and three passengers. It felt better with the passengers than it did with just one. Out of the lot the only one that impressed me was the Macan. The rest left me cold other than their abilities which is only a portion of the experience. Placed an order for a GTS and can't wait. Maybe if they found a way to use the PDK in the Cayenne I might go back but the Tip is just got to go. After years of driving Cayenne's it is time to move on. Don't need the extra space that often and IMO is a superior ride to my 14 CGTS which feels so big in comparison.

Not that the Macan isn't a great car but I doubt I'll be seeing any of them out there at my next track day.
Think again. They are incredibly capable and I plan to have some fun AXing ours. No doubt it is tough comparison and any 30 year old Porsche needs some tweaking to get the full potential out of it then there is Power to weight, PDK vs Manual shift times, brakes and so much more.

You might find this interesting. Seems to hold its own on track so did the Cayenne but the Macan is better in this respect.

Well it happened. At the track last weekend two Macans and a Cayenne showed up in my run group for a couple sessions. The field proceeded to lap them about 4 times during the session, only after being held up by them thru the turns each time. Watching them wag their a**es thru the turns was entertaining. If this is the trend let's hope PCA gives them their own run group. I guess the upshot is you can be less worried about going 4 off in and SUV, but on the flip side more worried about rolling over. Thanks alot PCA.

What run group, track etc? I can see them doing well if the drivers know what they are doing. I was held up for years by GT3's while driving my 93 964 C2 when they first came out. Once the drivers figured them out things changed.

I have no doubt I would be passing them in my track car but I can still see them doing well in the right hands.
