damn it.

i had my mtn bike in the back of my truck. (locked under my locked topper). i had to drive back to my old hometown for business and i found myself right next to the shop i bought the bike at. i stopped in to say hi, and they asked why i haven't brought the bike in for a free tune. they reminded me i get free tunes for life.

i'm "okay" at doing my own work. the rear derailler sometimes gives me fits. i admit it.

i told them i moved. he said, if i had my bike he would do it really quick..hour or so. if it didnt have anything major. i told him my bike was with me (lucky).

he saw my shredded back tire. i guess i need to lay off the burn outs. :Di isaid,.."hey toss a new on on there for me! i hate trying to set the bead on the new tubeless tires anyways." i ran of to meet my wife..

$95!! hahah..i just googled our tire choice. i got HOSED!! oh well. i need to find a presta valve inflator for my air compressor now. lesson learned.

on the bright side,i cant wait for this evenings ride. my bike is clean!! and the shifting is crispy. (if that makes any sense)

happy my chain didnt need replacement..it's halfway worn out.. i'll DIY that fo so.

it is surely a nice thing to trust a business so much that you don't ask how much it costs.

Just curious how much would the tire alone cost? Maybe $40? What was the break down on the labor and parts?

I have not taken my mtn bike in for a tuneup for a couple of years but I am guessing $200 can. but your situation reminds me to get an estimate.:confused:

The starter motor on my 2001 E320 gave up the ghost. I had it towed to a shop where I worked as parts manager for 4 years because I thought I would get treated fairly. I gave two weeks notice when I left on good terms.

I did my home work and the Bosch starter motor listed for around $250 depending on vendor. Labor was approximately 2 hours, so should be around $500 to $600.

Car was dropped off on Monday. Finally got the call Friday afternoon. "Cars all set, you can pick it up Saturday. Oh we had some trouble getting your exhaust off and the labor is 6.5 hours and the starter is $370.00." So final tally $982.00!!!!!!
I just about fell over. I told them I think they're way out of line.
They gave me a break on the labor and finally lowered the price of the starter to $250.

Bastards! Shame on me for not asking for a quote before they started. Shame on them for trying to stick it to me.

Some tires see a massive difference between msrp and internet. My tires are $75 but typically available for <$40 online. Hopefully you got a pretty fancy tire? I feel bad for local shops, they don't know their product and the prices are too high.

Does derailleur now work for you? Hopefully isn't a bent hanger, then you'd be out even more.

There is one place I go for bike mechanic in Seattle, for stuff I can't do. they're always booked weeks out. Prices are fair and they have all the knowledge. Most other shops I can do better myself, faster, cheaper and with less hassle.

Ultimately, it may have been worth the $95 to change the tire, clean the bike, and have the shifting improved. I am usually a DIY guy myself, but sometimes, time can get in the way.

i worked in as bike shop in college. There was no labor charged in replacing a tire if the tire was bought at the shop. IIRC the most expensive tire we sold was $19. but that was a while ago.

If they charged you $95 the tire better be packed with white stuff.

There is NO WAY I would pay that. No way in hell. I' have them yank that BS tire right back off of there.
And after i stormed out of there after NOT PAYING I would make sure i never set foot in there again. And I would tell everyone I could just how much of a rip-off that place is.

My little brother, a big bodybuilder mo fo did that to the local Chrysler dealer once. they kept his Grand Cherokee for a week over a broken seat heater. Tried to have it fixed under extended warranty, they sat on the rig and then when he got fed up, went down to collect it.

Idiot Service Advisor tried to bill him for an "hour" after sitting on car for 8 days. Service Adviser got called away from the kiosk as he was presenting the tab, my brother walked behind the counter, grabbed his keys and walked out to his truck.

SA tried to stop him by saying 'you owe us you have to pay"- brother flexed on him and said, "who's gonna stop me? You? **** you.."

Drove off.

Meh. Quality bike tires are expensive. I just paid $45 each for my road bike tires. Tire, tube, labor....$95 is not crazy. Especially if its a kevalar belted tire. Those things are sum biatch to get off.

Always used GoodRX for his prescription as that got it down to ~$100 per month.

Pediatrician put him on something new with a cash price of $250, GoodRX price ~$70.00

I pick up the new script yesterday and hand the Pharmacist the goodrx card.

She looks confused, asks me if I'm sure I want to use that.

They sell a simple little valve stem adapter than screws onto your presta stem. I leave one on my road bike valve stem just in case.

Tubeless is very easy:
put tire on
remove valve from valve stem (get removal tool at bike shop..its cheap)
fill tire with sealant through valve stem (small hose onto stem and sealant)
put valve back in
use a spare tube as a strap around tire to squeeze tire onto rim
inflate

26" X 4" tires are $125 or more for a decent 120tpi.

I think vash is saying he looked up the particular tire and found he'd been hosed. maybe just the tire was $95?

My prescription is $1.35 a month at Walgreen's. Every year, my insurance tries to push me to get a three-month supply from CVS instead (by saying I neglected to opt-out of their bulk program). If I buy it from CVS in a 3-month supply, it will save me a whopping 15¢! (5¢ a month). The Walgreen's is walking distance from my house. The CVS is across town. I will burn more in gas going to get it. That, and if I have another temporary prescription, it will be a pain to get.

$75 for the tire.
$15 for install and sealant. those foldable kevlar tires are a challenge!!

then tax.

i essentially overpaid the tire about $30.
