thru the fence #30
So in the 18 years I've lived here, we've now had someone miss the curve and go through our fence 30 times.
![]() This one took out a panel coming in, and a second going out. Fewer than 30 people though - I know at least one guy did it 3 times ![]() Left a few fog lights, some body trim, and a chrome grille in my front yard. Came back later for the grille, but the wife didn't notice (its a bit away from the house). We do know it was a Blazer. So tomorrow I get to call the 4 body shops and 1 custom truck shop in the immediate area and ask if anyone has come in with a damaged Blazer. ![]() Tried to send myself video, didn't go through, so I'll take still pics tomorrow and post, but I can see at least one spot where it was in the air to some degree. |

wow. Sounds like you need to install some very large rocks outside the fence.

You need to make their transgressions more costly.

The big ass water oak that fell down parallel to the fence? Its good... the Blazer missed the end of it by about 3 feet. And I can leave it there, and if someone hits it, oh well. But I can't purposely place anything. Besides, the ones that do it at night that we hear and notice get greeted by me wearing boxers, Crocs, FAL clone on a sling, phone and a flash light. ![]() Isn't that just about punishment enough ? Our house is about 100 yards back from the fence, has 6" exterior walls that are filled with insulation, so it isn't often that we actually hear the crash. Typically we'll hear them revving the engine trying to leave, or the beep-beep of a tow truck backing them up. If someone else notices and calls the ambulance/law, the dog will notice flashing lights and wake us up. For the cops/EMS I'll put shorts on and leave the FAL at the door. ![]() Last edited by id10t; 08-17-2017 at 06:18 PM.. |

Hell, even grocery stores install rocks to keep cars and trucks from running over curbs.

oh I could have so much fun with this, very large rocks outside your fence with some accent lights. The rocks are for decorative purposes. Oh I need to dig a drainage ditch, very deep with a very deep drop off. Oh my new totally rock wall fence or my new fence made out of steel I beams, hey I hear the modern look is in now a days.....

Only 2 accidents in daylight. Both were octegenarians that "got confused". There are worn down rumble strips and signs with arrows. No lights of any kind on the road for miles in either direction. I'll post some google map airial views tomorrow. |

And some big yellow arrow signs. And 'curve ahead'. And 'speed limit=x'.
And pay for it all. Such as installed by the city/county pronto. 30 times might be reasonable enough rationale. Kids could be playing there in your yard, on property you own, and pay taxes on. But if you go full on public without obtaining a barrier you can't plant those nice rows of trees with ditch and decorative rocks and everything. For more privacy and to reduce road noise of course. |

Put in a gravel trap inside the fence like some race tracks have or some run away lanes. This way you make it safer, you protect your yard and house, and can collect for damages.

Careful with the rocks, could easily end up becoming a ramp.
Don't understand with that many similar accidents why at least the county has not put up a guard rail and arrows.

A house in the neibourhood is the end of a T street. They used to have at least one car a year up against their house. The guy drilled and set railway rail 10' into the ground with about 4' sticking up all encased in concrete. He welded heavy link chain between the rails. It will stop just about anything on the road. Now when someone hits it all it takes is some flat black paint to make it look new.

I think to protect your own interests, (and for our entertainment), you should install a running loop spy camera to get their transgressions on film, and possibly get a license plate for the constables to follow up on.
I think a nice raised bed garden made of heavy landscape timber, and concrete blocks on the inside of your fence would be a nice addition to prevent anyone from leaving without saying hello. |

Get 3 lengths of I beam, weld them together as an X with a backstay from the centre,
and sink the legs a foot into the ground inside your fence.Decorate with hanging baskets of flowers. That plant holder(ahem, tank trap) should stop em.

take out the center post where they go thru
put hinges on the 2 outer posts and mount the 2 fence panels to the hinges. then put big springs on there. next time they go thru, the fence swings open then closes, no damage to fence. put up a deer camera to get their plate. send them the bill

I feel your pain.
Growing up we had a small mixed farm next to a triangle intersection with bridges on two of the approaches and our barn in the middle. Over the years we lost track of the number of cars and trucks which left the road and either took out fence or dropped over the bank or took out a bridge. The funny thing was we had the local telephone exchange in our house and a few times when some inebriated a-hole landed in our barn yard. they would stagger back across the bridge to the local garage, use the pay phone to call for a tow truck and claim they had just had a breakdown. My Dad would have pulled them out with the tractor and just fixed the fence if they had 'fessed up, but if they wanted to stand around for an hour and wait for the tow truck to come from the nearest town, it was up to them. After he retired, the barn was torn down. Eventually someone put a car off the road, through a guard rail and landed up side down in the river. Then the Dept of Transport re-lined the roads to eliminate the triangle and put in a stop sign. In your case, I think I would plant a hawthorn hedge and forget the fence. ![]() Best Les

Sorry to see that. It looks so familiar. There is a T intersection about a mile from here with a house right at the T. Someone fails to stop about once a month. The poor guy's front yard looks just like the shots of your place all the time. He gave up and quit putting the fence back up, but they've hit a big tree there so many times they killed it.
