The thing about the Dan is, I loved them when I was long haired kid listening to the Talking Heads, Jimi and the Dead. And I still loved them when I was a clubber listening to Michael Jackson and Culture Club. I still loved them when I was a jazzophile and would only listen to Ornette, Coltrane and Sweets Edison. Now I mostly listen to whatever moody pop and angsty rap my kids have me listening to, and I still love the Dan, and my kids love the Dan too. They have a sound and a voice very much their own. Dunno if it is timeless like Bach or Tchiakowsky, but in the decades of my life it's been pretty timeless. " Aja" sounds as fresh today as it did in 1978.

Nothing but booze and Elvis
And somebody else's favorite song...... Damn! Steely Dan was my go to "Chill out" high school and college standard..... Hate that I never got to see them live. RIP Walter. Your music encouraged me to spend outrageous sums on ever higher levels of audio enjoyment.... I think I'll drink scotch whiskey til the greatest hits run dry, them call it a night. |

Some of my best memories are from the mid 90's on a broken down 32 ft. trawler type powerboat on Kent Island named "Dr. Wu". Yeah, I love Steely Dan. I suspect Paul's flag is at half mast this month.

Well ... it started out innocently enough, just sitting on the deck listening to a Steely Dan playlist and sipping some adult beverages in tribute to Mr. Becker.
It devolved into playing Steely Dan LOUD and perhaps inappropriate dancing. I think Mr. Becker would have approved.

Saw them live for the 1st time a few years ago at the Starlight Theater in KC. Took my son (19 at the time) Splurged and paid dearly for seats 7 rows back from center stage. Perfect summer evening 70* outdoor venue. Without a doubt one of THE best concerts I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing, and like many here, I've been to a lot of concerts in my daze. SO many incredible songs and YES, no other better way to listen than vinyl. Thank you Walter (RIP) & Donald.
