The Stick

Got a new smoker and wanted to try some turkey. Went to the local butcher shop and was able to buy a turkey breast cut into 4 2lb chunks. It was $45. Still was a LOT of turkey breast.

Hipsters - "a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream." I'd say that's accurate, but I think these days most folks use it to specifically refer to the current generation of hipsters. They are sort of the modern hippy or beatnik, basically, anti-establishment in a way. They are not just a fashion/style, but include other things like yuppies or whatever.

I don't get it either.
![]() I call them hyper fags myself. I see a few around where I lives but when I get to LA and get on a bus. 1/3 of the bus has these people on it with brown hair. White stupid guys and I can't help but not laugh as its funny like living in a SNL skit. Its like Grizzy Admans meets a white supremist. |

Y'all sound like grampa Simpson!
I'm not sure how butchers got roped into this thread; there's a grocery store next to my office (Local Foods, for north side Chicagoans reading) that may easily be considered 'hipster' by all you fogeys. It has a fantastic meat counter / butcher - they get in a whole cow (re: beef) at a time and have all sorts of unusual cuts and will give you anything you ask for ( in beef, pork, chicken, whatever) with a little notice, and it is really, really, high-quality meat. Well worth the $$ premium. If that's what a hipster butcher is like, I'll take more, please.

Agree on that for sure. Btw, 'hipster' was used in Seinfeld years ago (I feel so old). Elaine called Kramer a hipster doofus iirc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hipsters are making any trade that was done in the early 20th century prestigious. As long as they get to dress like Ernest Shackleton they are happy

It's fun to see the term "hipster" making comeback. In the '50s being "hip" meant knowing what was going on. A hipster was a person who kept up with the latest trends in pop culture. Now it's knowing what's trending on facebook and youtube. "Beatniks" were anti-hipsters who eschewed pop culture, but they were hip to the latest trends in beat culture. I remember back in the early 60s my older cousin would say, "I'm hip to that," in place of "I know" or "I understand." The more things change the more they stay the same.

We got em thick in Portland. My favorite? A guy dressed as a ventian gondolier. Just grabbing a burrito.

We have lots of folks wearing western wear around here. Some are real and for sure Cowboys or Cowgirls. I saw a F450 extended cab pulling a two-horse horse trailer pull up at the local gas station. Out hopped a 85 to 90 pound woman. She had the boots, hat and full western wear outfit. She pumped the fuel and some moron had pulled up in front of her so he could not pull forward. Then like a pro, she backed that rig up between two other cars and drove away with no issue. I was impressed. She was the real deal.
One of my friends was Orren Mixer. He was a fantastic western artist and he had a nice ranch with longhorn cattle and horses and donkeys. He never left the property without his cowboy hat. He was the real deal as well. He sounded and looked like a cowboy and was proud to say he was. And the "soil" on his boots was often the real deal bullcrap right from the barn. No one would ever call him a hipster.

Former military servicemembers have created a hipster niche all their own, and it is just as insufferable.

Hipsters, no matter the genesis all have one thing in common. They are phonies. Scratch the surface and there is no "there", there.
