Newest Ken Block - Pikes Peak

The video was OK, but the car is really cool.

Yawn. Getting bored with the donuts/burnouts videos. I would like to see a full real run up PPIHC in that car.

Lots of test run strips are a give away. Don't get me wrong, the dude knows his car, but as Steve said let's see you drive up that hill for time.

Unfortunately, donut-burnout videos like this is what gets views and pays the bills and Ken knows it better than anyone. Few beyond those like us here care about an actual race video Speaking of which, here's Pastrana's recent record run up Mt. Washington. For those who have driven this road, you know how insane this is. The video doesn't begin to convey the steepness, tight/blind turns and narrow road surface.

1400 HP is almost too much power for running that hillclimb. I think the last time I saw that car run, it didn't have the turbos bulging out of the hood and "ONLY" had 800 HP.

I too, am a race/time trial fan, and not a fan of burnouts, or donuts....when I see standing burnouts in a video, I generally shut it off at that point (i'm an old fart).

It's interesting. Once. He does have control of the car, but we don't know how many takes it took to get it right.

I could watch Randy Probst a hundred times.

Ken Block can drive, he's been very successful in SCCA ProRally and Global Rallycross. I'd like to see him run Pikes Peak in that car, but set up to actually go straight. For this video there were parts where he looked conservative, I guess that's what happens when you have sheer drop-offs.

re-post from 2013:

Quote:
Rod Millen was the (Pikes peak) king for a long time, he did it in 10:04 in a toyota celica in the 90's before it was paved all the way to the top. In my mind he's still the king of the hill.
Nice guy too. Had dinner with him one time. He talks funny tho.

Some would argue that the Unser family are the kings, and they would have strong grounds for that argument at least from a USAC point of view.

The GT3R did it in 9:46.181 (paved, 2012), Rod's nephew holds the current overall record (paved, 2012) at 9:46.164 in a slightly modified hyundai genesis.

Crazy vid of Pikes Peak. No guardrails? No problem

Block is actually a huge stage rally guy. He was a big fan way before he ever raced or had the money to race. He's only not doing it now because Ford wants him to race Rallycross and they pay the bills

This is some video I shot at a test session we hosted for Block's team. No donuts or burnouts that day. Very serious business. At about 0:40 he's flat through the long esses at well over 100MPH. It was quite a sight to see.
