My favorite time of year, all pics taken a few minutes ago. Pre-H20 reminded me what is important (sometimes a gentle reminder is all you need):

Life is good. I love the Fall. As a Cali guy, I had to move East to appreciate the change of seasons. Fall.

Yea, I can see why you like fall. Spring just means all the fields need constant attention. Fall means you have the winter off.

You have a great place there. And a lovely wife, and you raised some good kids. Ya done good!

Relax for a while before the snow shovels come out.

Is that the Eastern shore? Used to go there (from VA) with brother in law (from MD) for Canada geese in the Fall. Pretty area wherever it is in MD.

I have been tuned into the change in weather as well the past few weeks. Anyone who makes their living outdoors.....yeah.....

After work tonight, I stopped at a local brewery. Walked outside, away from the bar, the crowd, and enjoyed a beer, just enjoying the change in season.

I had to go to the car to grab a jacket.

The crisp air.
The lack of humidity.
The clearer sky.
Sounds travelled clearer.
Light travels clearer.
The sky was bluer.
An 18 wheeler rumbled by with it's jake brake, and even it sounded better. It looked better.

For the last two mornings the temps have caused nice fog over the valley. I will try to post pics.

People drove in and I pontificated their "they all look the same" tailights and fender curves on econo- suv boxes.

You can tell when fall hits. It has hit west of charlottesville va.

If having a 'cane hit is the price we pay for the weather we've had since I'll cheerfully install a transfer switch for my generator and do a little more prepping every year.

Winter sucks ass and fall is just a prelude to it so despite the good aspects of it, it fills me with a sense of dread...

Sorry but I'm a warm-weather person at heart and do just fine when there's one season called "summer". It's a cruel twist of fate that I've gotten stuck in a place that's cold, dark, miserable and dreary for about eight months a year, but that'll be ending soon enough.

I do like a lot of things about fall / autumn as mentioned but the "prelude to winter" aspect of it makes it hard to enjoy.

Even in Florida...yes indeed.

At this juncture, not as drastic of a change as other parts of the country but the lower humidity together with temps that (finally) drop below 90....oh man.....it's almost like heaven!

Agree with you on the soup. You should try that Italian Wedding soup recipe...use with chopped spinach...mmmm......

Paul - I thought the same. When I first moved to Southern Cal. from the UK the first few years were lovely. But then it struck me how much I missed the fall, and the novelty of driving home from work in the car with the roof down for the Christmas holidays wore off.

Moving to the East coast brought the seasons back. But I have to say, now we're in Northern California, we still do get seasons up here and it's wonderful.

I love fall too. Couldn't necessarily tell you why. Could it be the cool, crisp mornings, the smell of the air, the leaves changing color, the crunch of the fallen leaves under foot? I don't know what exactly, but there's something about it that brings back pleasant memories that I can't quite put my finger on.

I love the fall too! Spring is great, 'cause winter is over, but we have four distinct seasons here....saw our last 90 degrees with humidity last week so it's just turned the corner here...my favorite time....spring a close second place though.

I love the change of seasons. Each change brings a kind of excitement with it. What will we get this year? Autumn is particularly beautiful, with all the color and the smells of ripe crops. Right now it's apples. The smell of apples is in the air in many places. They haven't started corn harvest yet, but I love the smell of fresh picked corn. It reminds me of my childhood.
Summer wasn't good to us this year here on the ranch. I'm looking forward to burning off the garden this time. Good riddance. I lost a three year old apple tree to ambrosia beetles, another is badly infected with cedar apple rust. I finally surrendered in my fight with anthracnose in my raspberries, burned them, and I'm starting over in a different place. The tomatoes came down with Verticilium earlier than usual, but we had an ample harvest. Bacterial wilt got both plantings of cucumbers, voles ate the asparagus roots and a few of the pepper plants. I try to plant double what I'll need of everything, one for me and one for the critters, but this year the critters took more than their share. Still, we filled the freezers and gave tons of food away.

I pathologically dislike heat and humidity so the slide into Fall is the transition I enjoy the most.

Winters in my part of Maryland are rarely harsh for more than a week at a time so I actually enjoy winter here, even the occasional heavy snow.

One more mow then it is time to tear these things down for thorough maintenance: Three cylinder diesels with 70 inch mower decks, each with 1500 plus hours on the meter, 15 years old. One has a front end loader that has been invaluable.

Nice setup. I'm a bit north and love this weather. Geese are everywhere, nights are cool and days are warm.... I'm gearing up for leaf season so I'm getting equipment ready instead of putting it to bed.

Same here. Our house and lawn are surrounded by maple and hickory trees. One year I didn't clear the leaves off the lawn and the next spring I didn't have a lawn!

Autumn has changed some around here. Local farmers have stopped using field grain driers. In the past from mid-October to December the night air was filled with the whine of grain driers. Now autumn nights are quiet - without the summer's insects and tree frogs singing you can hear the leaves falling, the owl's eerie calls, and the coyotes yapping. They sky is clearer too, so the stars are brighter. It's a great time of year.

that sounds great. Well, great except for the coyotes. I see tons a birds everday but I still stop and watch the hawk or blue herron whenever I see them. Sitting on the boat last night just after sunset, awesome moon!, I watched a herron glide around the creek for a while. Sounds so simple I'm sure but I was captivated.
