I'd rather see a Porsche get a chevy engine stuffed in it then see it scrapped. At least it will live.

ks911 - did you use the zz4 engine?
|
Hope you're happy. I invested a couple hours worth of Saturday Morning on this thread. Now I'm going to work on the car.
------------------ Cheers, JerRed 1973 911T, 2.4 CIS |
I used a four bolt main 1976 truck engine. I just like to built everything, buying a built engine just does not suit my personality.
I have personaly experiance problems with the Elebrock carb in the corners, I think there are places that can help fix this but the Holley worked fine with minor tuning. As an update still waiting on parts to get the yellow beast back together. Need clutch linkage for the new turbo trans. Supplier did not include with trans. Mount either. Leave for the Talladaga Drivers ed on Fri. I have to get cooking. Will let you all know how the new bars and trans. work out. |
Hey feelyx with the 912!
That short wheelbase 912 could be a real auto X powerhouse with a latemodel hot rod VW engine! Somebody on an auto X topic told about a 914 with a 297 h.p. VW motor. Could that be a reasonable conversion and still maintain that real tossable attitude? I a magazine with a VW engined VW turning 9 second quarters! NO Blow! Chevy V-8s have been highly developed, but for an old swb 912 that already has a VW engine? Different horses for different courses. Dan |
I heard this car kicked butt at CMP last weekend and people who saw the car reported it was very well done indeed.

Can we get more juicy info!

DEAR GOD NOT AGAIN!

Who the hell dug this one up!!!
'Glad to have the longest running thread'- more like!!!!! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/frown.gif |
Just reading up on the old posts.
LT-1 thru LT4 were 350ci. But, aren't LS1 motors actually 346ci and not 350? AC ------------------ Adam Chaplin - 1976 911 Coupe My Pelican Gallery Page My Owners Gallery Page |
Whenever I feel bad about things I've done and bad decisions I've made I look up this topic and immediately feel better.
Because this is the best thread ever - a vast monument to total brain-dead stupidity. Heh heh heh! Next thread - steam turbine conversions for 911s, why you should do them, why I feel the need to get all defensive about having wasted so much time and effort and money on them, and why I need to post the information here (its a public humilation thing). - roGER |
I see the feud continues unabated.
For anyone interested in taking a look at my '68 912 which has been converted from SWB to LWB, 901 to 915, and has a V8, I have posted pics and info at: http://www.geocities.com/thornking/ ------------------ Jay '68 912 V8 |
Thought I would update, those who care, about the progress of the V8 Bastard.
Anyhow, I desided to pull the engine and build the engine to be a semi race engine since I rarely drive the car on the street anymore thanks to a company car. I went with a Callies racemaster Crank, Eagle ISP H-beam rods, Lunati pistons and a higher rpm cam. This will allow a 7000rpm shift instead of the 5700 that I was shifting at thus allowing me to hold a gear longer, etc. I will also upgrade the cooling system to a bigger radiator. Projected Hp should be 500, with torque around 485. An Accusump has been added to prevent oil starvation in the turns and works very well. Also I have switched to Supertrapp mufflers and love the sound, and was at least 10lbs lighter than the last setup. I will be attending the D.E. at CMP and VIR this fall. Hope to see everyone there. |
Ohmygod! It lives! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif))

I also am getting ready to do a ZZ4 V-8 conversion into my 1983 911SC. The cost of doing business with the 911 parts department is just high and too hard too expensive to build horsepower, I feel.
What was the total cost picture on your conversion? Horsepower and Torque specs? Mine will be 355 HP, 380 FTpds Torque. I may elect to have some more work on the powerplant to get it to turn 5,900Rpm all day and 7,200 as needed. The rear end gears will most likely be changed out to bring the shifting line with the powerplant specs. I found a new 22 gallon gas tank replacement, so the fuel tank alterations will soon be unnessary. Have any interested in a fine running 3.0 engine, still car and a daily runner. |
Hm.. I was in the market for a Porsche, but now after discovering the rip-off maintenance and repair costs involved for a Porsche, I'm going to get an old 911 and chevy it up. I'm not a mechanic like ks911 so I'll have to farm out most of the work.
Once that baby has a V8 in it, I'm going to put on fender flares, a whale tale and stick on Turbo lettering in the back. I figure for around 15 thou, I'll have a 911 Turbo that runs faster than a real one w/o the costly maintenance and repair headaches. Most people wouldn't know the difference either. A 930 w/ a new motor & tranny for $15,000, *****in'! Quote:

Why stick the "turbo" lettering on the back?
Anyone with even the most rudementary of automotive knowledge can immediately pick up the tone of an American V8. Nothing to be ashamed of - you'll have a wicked fast car with the sexy Porsche looks for pennies on the turbo dollar. |
They are comin outta the woodwork now.

Okay, Chevy up the 911, no prob... but don't you think that the Turbo badging is a little rice? You gonna buy some gold plated jewelry too? I can get you some nice cubic zirconias (sp?) too... http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif
I think it would be cool (and un-rice) to actually put the cubic inch #'s like'355' or something like 'LS1' just like they had on the old camaros. Adam Roseneck ------------------ 1978 911SC 3.0 roseneck@cyberbeach.net |
