<i>"It looks a lot like the Corvette Engines of the late 80's. Especiallly the CORVETTE 350 LT-1 TPI. There it is in a Porsche. They copied that cool looking TPI (Tuned Port Injection) from a CORVETTE. I like the USA / German combination."</i>
I think it's more a derivative of the 928 engine's induction system from the 70's .... maybe GM got the idea there ..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1077714364.jpg |
Hey beepbeep!
You wouldn't be using PHOTO SHOP or something like it would you? Give us a web sight so we can check out this conversion. The 350 SBC has won a ton of races. Hey gidyup2! How is the 911 350 going for you. Any comments you would have on service, maintenance and miles you have meen driving would be nice. Benson:cool: |

A "Bastard Porsche" is still a Porsche.
A "Bastard Porsche" with a V8 conversion is just a "Bastard". |
Got to find him a Chevy chat group where he can feel comfortable!! Imagine all the anglophiles who got onto Carroll for his blastphemy!

Its actually a 327 that winds up to a little over 6grand. Runs very smooth with nearly the same drive/handling as before. However, more ass end into hard turns. Pick-up, well, you've heard. The regular maintenance, oil, filter and such is a snap. The exhaust gaskets, purging the cooling system 1000 times after flushing or opening the system is a pain. Recalibrating the gauges pretty straight forward. My one wish is that I replaced 5th with a taller gear. Winds out at 3000 doing 70 or so. As far as cooling temps, I run a steady 220, from high compression and slightly restrictive exhaust(Dynomax). Everything is holding up great under my usual abuse. I have to wind the thing out every time I take it out. The tranny seems to be fine with only a slight gear sound in 2nd.
A/C, EFI, taller 5th, 4 more Blaupunkt Speakers, DVD and Im finished. |
BUMP... !!!
;) ;) (the "old timers" here will understand!) |
HAAAAA!
Good move! |
As far as im concerned.. If you can build it, DO IT!
There's a guy on the 914 board who put a Euro 928 motor in his 914 that documented the whole process... quite a lot of work, but bad ass... |
I wonder if there should be a separate forum for Porsche "conversions" so that all of you guys who think that you can build a better Porsche by putting non-Porsche parts parts into it will have a welcoming place to chat about your projects. Those who want to go there can. And the rest of us won't have our fur rubbed the wrong way by what you guys inflict on your examples of Porsche's handiwork.
Hint... Hint... |
I don't care for these mods and would never do it But it is your car do what you want.. I would never be interested in buying such a modified car. I also do think that If people wanted a v8 car they should look at vettes. I do however think that You will enjoy your car . It probably is not what was intended for the car originally but it is YOUR car !!!!!

I never understood why people on this board got so upset about a Chevy engine in a Porsche until I went to Spring Carlisle this year, where I saw a Corvette with a big block Ford. ;)
Seriously, though... what Jared said. If you have the skill to make it come together, go for it. I saw a yellow 914 at the Carlisle Import/Kit/Replicar show last weekend that was beyond sweet. It had a small block Chevy, very very fat fender flares, and the whole job looked like the builder paid attention to details. |
I seriously don't get why people get so "upset" over this conversion...I get more upset with Porsche owners who are pretending to be racecar drivers and wreck their 911 than I do with V8 conversions...
(this ought to stir up trouble) |

Level 1) I don't like the idea of removing the beautiful, sophisticated flat six and replacing it with American iron. This is just personal taste though. If someone wants to do it to their car, it belongs to them, and so they can. I wouldn't do it, but it's not my decision to make. Level 2) This is the level that is the more important to me. I don't know this for sure, but I strongly suspect that you may have to cut the car up to make this mod. If that is the case, then you have effectively changed the car in a way that is irreversible, and to me, ruined it. Since you have now shrunk the pool of available stock 911's by one, I don't love you for that. Not at all. If this is not the case, then see level 1. Modifications fall into two categories, ones that can be undone, and ones that can't. If you change your radio, or bumper, or seats or rims, they can easily be changed back to stock. If you cut up your car, you've ruined it; it can never be returned to stock, and that, I believe, is the guts of the reason why people react so strongly to this type of mod. ianc |
Drago,
Been there, done that with my Vette. I bought that kind of filter because it was the only one that completely cleared my hood (with pad). Blew out 2 air filter elements before replacing it with a small round unit that (IMO) doesn't look as good. Now, if I had a source for that foam that's used in the element... |
