You don't have to cut up the car for a V8 conversion.
Some cut up the front valance but you don't have to. I have seen cars converted to V8 and then put back to Porsche 6 with no trace that the conversion was ever done. |
Put a freekin diesel engine in it if you want...I say do what you will. It's a car...not the Holy Grail.

I just had two ways to a more powerful 911. 1. 930 conversion whick should set me back about 15.000 USD or more for a OK engine and ancillaries. 2. Waterpumper, in this case a SAAB B204L (16valve twin cam 4 cylinder with turbo) and pass my annual inspection in Sweden with flying colors. Easy to tune too, stock internals can handle about 500 hp, some bits even more. But I have a FIRM stance, I donīt cut any sheetmetal for the conversion. It should unbolt and changes to a aircooled 911 engine in one day, any day. I have a another project in engineering stadium which includes a silouhette 911 with tube chassis and motorbike engine in the front :) |

It will never be return to stock. I am also using non Porsche parts to make it perform better (ER polybronze bearings, TRG tbars and adj sways, Brembo brakes etc)... :D I think someone very respected here dared to change the suspension geometry of his Porsche to make it go faster around a track (BB2)....:D Again another irriversible modification  These are just cars. Manking should have 1 911 of each period in a museum... the rest are there for us to enjoy... |
ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this thread is back :D |
Keep 'er rollin'.

People love this thread....here is an old pic of my rad hole cut out and the only thing that is cut on the car. Here is also the tank modified (now 16 gallons)
Can the front panel be replaced and changed back to stock? what do you think? I have see many do much more than this one panel replace on rust repair. Would I ever change it back? Well now, it is a 77 that was converted with glass flares and fenders/ nose painted dark cherry metalic with rs door panels and modified stock seats running a 450hp/425lbsft with a turbo 4 speed. It really would not be worth much as an average condition stock 77 with a 2.7 and a 915 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117243123.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117243213.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1117243230.jpg I would not have modified a clean 77 that was perfect but it was not. The thing is well done conversions cost money and people that think they will get away without spending some will fail. For example I don't see anyone bashing "Doozers" car and Todd is clearly having fun with it but that car does not represent the average builder because he has some real money in it. I really want to see it when it is done it will be nice. It is just a car ......have fun with it do what you want with yours I just try not to take any of it to seriously. If anyone is considering a conversion you can contact me. I am not saying convert your car but I could let you know the details. |
An update on the fate of the yellow V8 911:
The person who started this thread removed the V8 and then installed a 3.0 race motor. Then, the car was sold. His next project, which I think is great, is an old 928 with a 454. Just when, one thinks he can keep up with Keith on the track, he comes up with another giant killer :D |
Oh and FWIW, here is an add in the local paper:
1977 Porsche 911, tonneau top, converted to 930 turbo, hybrid 350 small block, needs restoring completed. Best offer. XXX-XXXX Sounds like a real nice project :D |
Who does these conversions? :D
|
people with cars that arent' restorartion worthy.

All the guys here love there cars, some just like to keep things original some don't. Most have there cars repaired/rebuilt by someone else but some do the work themselves. Those guys may like the challenge of a conversion. I have a 930 converted trans to run mid-engine. If I could I would put it in a 911 but its likely going in a 914. Just for the fun of doing it. I would guess that 99.9 % of the people here would give up there cars in a second for a new twin turbo so it all still comes down to money and it likely within this subject always be that way.

Well I guess the next project will be to install a small block Chevy in a Ferrai 360 Stradale, at least the same engine design will apply.
Maybe some American Iron in a Miura SV. j.p. |

The mods done to the body of my car are not reversible. To do so would require welding patch pannels and a repaint. The majority of cars on this board are not easily changed back to stock. Adding a V8 has nothing to do with cosmetics or "butchery". That is up to the owner and can take many forms. Ever see a Gemballa?
