You know you are "that age" when conversations are about health issues. Yeah, I've got some.

Not necessarily "that age" because when I was racing bicycles in the 70's and 80's and I was in my mid 30's there was always talk of what hurt or ached after a race or how bad did you feel after a training ride, ETC. Especially chest pains and knee pains!

About 5 years ago I came from working several days straight at a very busy fire station laid down started to get palpitations blew it off at first but wouldn't go away 20 minutes later told wife to call 911, strange feeling to be on the other side of what I do all day, AFIB by the time I got to the ER it had converted on its own, ER doc attributed it to long work hours with little or no sleep.
Transferred to a "slower" station it was cool to say I worked at the busiest fire station in the country but that was my signal to move on and let the younger guys have it.

Way back when, like 38 years (and 50 less pounds) ago, I volunteered to be the Guinea pig for a demonstration of a treadmill exercise test.

Got all hooked up to the machine while the technician explained to the group that a resting baseline EKG is recorded prior to beginning the actual test.

Imagine what I was thinking when he looked at the printout, then at me, then back at the printout which he zipped off like a grocery receipt and left the room.

So he comes back a few awkward minutes later and demonstrates exquisitely precise diplomacy while asking for a different participant.

'WTF', I'm thinking to my self.

Even worser my replacement was a massively obese, sweaty and short of breath guy who subsequently got his stomach stapled.

Moral of the story: NEVER volunteer for anything.

I never did find out. Never had any heart symptoms have had totally negative exercise tests in subsequent years, normal blood pressure, etc. Positive family history, though.

On one of those graded exercise tests (GXT) I was watching the ecg monitor and thought I'd be funny and ask the doc why I'm seeing some S-T segment depression (which is an indicator of serious heart damage). That was the closest thing to a heart attack I've ever seen but it wasn't me.
