I have..
and even with a lot of ER time as a Para.. I was in denial... my crew chief finally convinced me to go.. 'dude we haul folks ASAP with less symptoms than you..' turned out to be a blown lung.. the only way to make sure you didn't have some sort an event is an EKG.. btw..countless folks die every night going to bed mumbling.. it's just heart burn..some tums.. next morning the Lady runs about the house wailing.. as her Fred is cold & stiff and won't get up.. Wasn't a false alarm for me as a couple of hours later I was dead with a cardiac arrest
Thought it was indigestion and even had a tingling left arm, missed the classic warning signs Luckily my wife woke up, gave me CPR for 10 mins before the paramedics arrived and got me going again on the 3rd jump start I'm all good now and running on all 6 cylinders, life is good!

I've had 2 heart "episodes" in the last 11 months. Neither was typical or resembled what you might come to know as a heart attack. They come in different forms and different ways. The first for me was an aortic valve replacement due to a hole that was created. The second was 2 weeks AFTER I "graduated" from cardio therapy. I had what they call a sudden heart death. My heart just stopped. I fell off my bike and wasn't breathing when people rushed over to me. I was lucky enough to fall in front of 3 police officers, one grabbed his AED machine and shocked me back to life. Neither was predicted and the symptoms we're: light headed, extremities cold, nauseous.....if you don't feel right.....go directly to the ER. It saved my life.... twice!

I got sideswiped by a panic attack once, live on the forum here.
Totally out of the blue, pain in my arm, thinking i couldn't breath, light headed and what not. Was alone in my appartment, in Holland, no family or friends near did scare the **** out of me.

yes been to er twice thinking very possible cardiac event.
negative both times. ekg and blood tests. told my wife I don't want to be that guy who blew it off as heartburn. of course if you DO get heartburn that makes it even tougher. panic arttacks suck.

MI's can manifest without typical symptoms. In my case all I had was back pain. It felt like someone was pressing a screwdriver and twisting it under my left scapula. Same pain I had from a car accident in 98. None of the typical symptoms were happening. No chest, jaw or arm pain. No tingling anything. I drove myself to the ER and a hr later I was on the operating table at the heart hospital in my area. I had 100% blockage of the main and right arteries with 32% of the left also blocked. I told the ER Dr. that the only reason I drove there was I couldn't find a comfortable spot in my bed. He told me if I had, I probably wouldn't have woken up in the morning.
If you have any concerns about how you feel get yourself to your local hospital where they can do some simple tests on you. I had a EKG two weeks before mine happened and it was normal. The only reason it was normal was nothing was happening to me when I had it done. If you have any concerns get it checked. Tomorrow may never come.

better safe than dead Berretta..
long time heartburn guy myself who ignored another time.. when my wife found me on the living room floor.. I was 2 pints low and on my way to bleeding out... most of are still here because our youth, stupidity and other assorted events didn't kill us.. we're now at the age where those silent killers start showing up.. sure some have those 'classic' sign's..but not always.. crazy thing is.. we often KNOW something isn't right or like those other times... then that man / mule head starts babbling in your ear.. it's nothing... next thing you know if your lucky.. your looking up.. and everyone is looking down at you.. and they look worried or crying.. Yeah I did. I was in an all day meeting, when I started to get pains up and down my left arm. This went on for several hours, getting more severe. Eventually, mid morning, I drove myself to the large public hospital quite close by. I stood in line at Emergency. At my turn, I explained my symptoms, the nurse was instantly up out of her chair, grabbed me through the door and took me past the line into a treatment room. She stuck me into a chair and put me on oxygen straight away. Two nurses with a cart and a doctor immediately appeared. I was injected with something. This was happening really quickly. After a while I was admitted, put in an Emergency bed. I was electroded, connected up to all sorts of machinery, an IV was inserted, blood was taken, a full set of tests was ordered. After all day, they could find nothing. At about 11pm, after 12 hours in Emergency, a doctor has me doing a stress test, star jumps, in the Emergency Ward. They kept me in till about 1am, concluded I had some sort of virus and sent me home.
Its never happened again in 10 years, so they must have been correct. BTW, that all happened in a public hospital and cost nothing. I was very impressed, but quite embarrassed to have consumed so much resource over a "virus". The Med staff said, nevertheless, presenting to Hospital was the right thing to do- but I should have called an ambulance.

Just today... I had an EKG a couple days ago for an upcoming kidney stone zapping, Doctor called me in to ask if I had a heart attack some time ago. I said no and had the same procedure (and EKG) end of August. He looked it up and yep nothing wrong.
He said either they mixed up the tests and/or the EKG is only 90%, human error being the main culprit, also said I'd definitely remember if I had one in the past. He ordered another one for the first of the new year just to be safe.

I’ve had a few moments of concern over the last few years. After having an appendectomy I’ve been subject to heartburn to over the last few years, which always creates a little concern. The lack of other symptoms has kept me at home or work vs driving to the nearest hospital.

I had quadruple bypass surgery 4 1/2 years ago. Here is what led up to it. I have had my high blood pressure and cholesterol controlled with meds for many, many years dating back to when I was in the US Navy, 70's and 80's even. Five years ago I felt unbalanced and 'weird" one Saturday morning so when I found it hard to even walk down our hallway I dialed 911, let my wife know what was happening and went out front to wait. They took me to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego and after poking, prodding and even a MRI it was determined I had a "mini stroke". After getting over that (two months) the heart doctor suggested a stress test so in I went. In went the I V and in went the meds to start the test and I totally lost all control. They called the heart doctor in and after meds to slow things down, TWO nitro pills he said "well now you know what a heart attack feels like"! Wow, it was bad, very bad.
The next day in went the tube and a check to see if stents could be used, but no, I was too plugged up! The heart surgeon came in later and gave me the choices and I figured by pass surgery was the best choice and so far it has been as I never, ever want to have any thing remotely like the feeling of helplessness that came with the heart failing! Several of my friends who I shoot with have asked about this and I always tell them "DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE, GO TO THE HEART SPECIALISTS"! That feeling I had during the stress test has made a true believer out of me. |

I’ve felt my heart stop twice. Meds they gave me during an afib event. Idea they said was to flip heart back into rhythm.
Classic sinking into the gurney vision narrowing feeling. Eery but not in itself painful in any way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was in London, actually Slough and out for a jog. I felt pain in my left chest and thought "no way" but turned around anyway. I got back to the hotel and the pain was worse and hurt to breathe. The desk clerk put me into a backroom immediately and the house doctor was there in a few minutes. The doc checked me out said no heart attack mate but lets get you to your room. There they actually brought in some kind of monitor and had me stay in bed all day. Next day all better. Turns out I had taken a shot to the chest during a rugby match two days prior. It just took that much time to bloom. Cost me 10 pounds sterling for the doctor, my employer paid for the monitor.

dang folks.
those false alarms are a wake up call for sure. i was glad to have that conversation with my doc..altho i still dont know the cause of my discomfort. she laughed at me when i told her i used my iphone app to check my heartrate at the time.. after talking to her, i jogged 3 miles yesterday. i'm going to take the fright and channel it into some positive action to buy me some insurance..i am going to improve my diet and exercise WAY more.
