Do you mean the "Nerd Perks" card?

Have you ever noticed the colored stripes on a resistor? On the left of the card it shows the resistor color codes.

This may be more helpful.

I have seen the stripes. It did not help for me that the diode was orange with black ''stripes''. It has been 45 years since I messed with any of that stuff. I assembled a Heathkit stereo, and that was about it. This is a big help for me, and I appreciate it.

Thanks, Guys.

Bad boys rape our young girls, but violet goes willingly

The only thing you have to remember is "black brown" at the start.

The old GE MK IV control systems had a 4-20mA input section and the fuse was rated too high (0.5 amps). If you applied 24VDC to the circuit, the resister would blow, saving the fuse. I kept lots of the the correct resistors around. I would go to an electronics store, go to the precision bin and then use a meter to check and find the ones that were PRECISELY 250 ohms. These were 1/4 Watt resistors.

I'd assign an electrical tech and a few minutes later, everything was working.

Alligator clips can be used as a heat sink as well. As close to the soldering location as possible decreases the amount of heat hitting the component.

On an automotive gas gauge, a 12v 1N4742A 1W zener diode seems more likely. What did the gauge come off of?

I was taught a slightly more bawdy version:

Bad Boys Rob Our Young Girls But Violet Gives Willingly.

That looks a lot more like it Fint, but the numbers clearly read 40 04.

It's a Veglia Borletti gauge out of an 81 fuel injected Fiat Spider 2000.

Edit; Ordered a few anyway.

Just curious, did the diode swap work out?

Forceps work well too if you have some handy.
