The roof on my garage is “pyramid” shaped. Perhaps there is a proper building term for it, but I’d say its pyramidal. There are framing members that come from each corner of the structure and slope upward to the peak of the roof dead center of the building.

Top of the door is 8’. Around the perimeter I only have 9’ or so, but as you move to the center of the building I have increased headroom as the roof pitches up from all four sides. I can put the lift at full height with an E class Benz and have plenty of clearance all around

And why the raised rails? Are you wanting to be able to open the door with the car on the lift?

That's a pretty good price for the pair . The 8500 has the ability to link up to your smartphone so you can see if anyone has opened the door and I believe you can remotely open/close with your phone . But it's also more crap that can go wrong And yes I want to take full advantage of the 12 ' ceiling height so that's why the extended rails . Plus I think it makes for a cleaner looking install .

Makes perfect sense . So you are saying with an 8 ' tall door you still have clearance all around with a vehicle fully raised on the lift ? Is that a 2 post or 4 post ?

I see that. Full hip roof, center higher.

OP - Don't forget lighting. You probably want to put strips on each side of the lift.

My previous garage I had two strips of track lighting that went front to back . Each head had an LED floodlight it was very bright . In this garage I may go with three strips , might be overkill but I'll be able to land a 747 at night I really like the ability to aim the lighting where it is needed most . My last garage I had four heads just pointing to my workbench and it was plenty . The rest were pointing to various other areas of the garage . If I remember correctly they were all 4000K lamps so white bright !

The only gripe I have with the liftmaster opener and I don't know why this happens but the one in my unheated barn has some difficulty closing when it gets could out. It's like the down pressure needs to be adjusted when it gets cold. It will go down about 1 or 2 panels and then reverse. If I hook it with a rake and put little to no pressure pulling down, it will close without a problem. The one in my heated shop works flawlessly. I don't know if it's expansion/contraction in the unheated building but it happens every year.

^yes. This is a Revolution 4 post lift. The RFP8 8000lb model.

Yesterday I was still thinking about what type of garage doors do I want and what size , I was getting no where . Then I had one of those forrest through the trees moments........... my neighbor is in the garage door business ! I'm new to the area but drive by his house almost daily and he has an advertisement sign in the front yard . I felt like such a dope ! Anyway I called and left a message and he called back last night . Had a nice conversation and he's coming over later today to talk things over .

He suggested a 10 x 9 and a 10 x 10 just based on our conversation so today I will lay the framing out on the concrete with pencil lines and see if I can fit those sizes . I believe I can . I am curious to know his suggestions on conventional panel door vs. commercial roll up . He's apparently well known in the area based on internet feedback and builds custom carriage house doors so he has skills . And being right around the corner can't hurt So I am expecting after today to have a firm understanding of what style/type of doors I will go with and frame accordingly . Thanks for all the advice and pics guys it was helpful .
