Just wondering?

Yes. Not cars, and not for years, but when I was in college I studied the Battle of Britain and built a unit-specific model of every model and make of airplane used in the Battle.

Nice model, and nice photo of it. You are certainly a craftsman.

Well, yeah. But mostly N scale model trains. I create master parts and then cast them out of resin for bits that are not available commercially. But now with laser printing I may have to change my processes. You can do a lot of cool stuff with it.

Thanks Jason! Heller made a very nice quality model.

In between paid pieces I'll have fun with freestyle scratch-built nonsense.......almost done.

Wow Rob, the detail on that thing is amazing. Love how realistic are the wood shingles and that they are not evenly installed. The wood panels on the front, under the windows are not all straight.

I have those pics of the garage extensively (I used to be really into them when I was a kid. WWII, Tamiya stuff) every time you post them. I have to ask, how did you find the materials for the build just on those garages. There are no kits and how were you able too keep the scale realistic with just materials found? You can't just cut a piece of board down for the post and beams because the actual grain would be too big, unless you paint fakes ones on there to match the scale? This separates the men and the boys.

I haven’t built a car or plane model since I was a teenager.

Really cool stuff Rob and Jason.

Same here, I still have many of the finished/unfinished models back when they were $4-$5 each. I just looked yesterday at Hobby Lobby, and noticed the standard price is now $25-$35 per kit, and still looks like the same choices as 40 years ago.

As a boy I had all of the NASA vehicles starting with the X-1 right up to the LEM. Wish I still had them. You guys are making me want to re-start. Where do you source your kits from?

I get kits from E-Bay, also keep an eye out at garage sales etc.

Paints and other consumables I use some of the big hobby web pages.

The closest hobby store is a two hour drive...

This is what my wife would fear about this.

Jason, very nice CGT. You have a lot more patience than me! I was really into top fuel and funny car kits when I was a lad, but they never turned out looking that good...

RKT, that freestyle piece you're working on is amazing - it looks like it's straight out of a Miyazaki film!

Thats some great stuff...

Rob - would be interested to hear the story of how you ended up doing this for a living. Was it a full time gig? Commissioned art pieces?
