Apple are you kidding me?

https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-slows-down-older-iphone-battery-issues/

Decrease in performance with OS upgrades? To save my battery?

I'd rather swap batteries for $25 (iPhone 6 amazon new battery) than spend $900 on a new phone.

The software detects the battery condition. Install new battery and the throttling stops.

Meh, I have a 6 Plus. It's about 2.5 years old. It's still working fine. When I went to IOS11 it did reduce my battery life. I hear that's normal with big upgrades for the phones to be slower for a few days as they optimize or get used to the new OS or something, but I also went through and changed some settings that had been set to "on" from "off" with the upgrade, and that restored my battery life to normal. The only processor type glitch that I may be noticing is that when I click a folder full of icons/apps, I may have to poke it twice to get it to expand.

It's been independently evaluated and debunked.

iPhone slow: Study reveals truth about claims Apple ruins its products to make people buy new ones | The Independent

Debunking the rumor that Apple slows down old iPhones to force you to upgrade – BGR

https://www.snopes.com/harvard-study-apple-iphones-sales-slows/

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/15/technology/personaltech/new-iphones-slow-tech-myth.html

EDIT: OK, I did not read the article and only assumed it was what it was. My bad. But the original article makes sense.

Aging battery that no longer holds the same charge. Manufacturer has two choices, not throttle the device so your phone shuts off 5 minutes after unplugging from an overnight charge or throttling the device so you can get more life, albeit slower, but still more life out of it.

They are doing you a favor by allowing the phone to continue to function and not forcing you to replace the battery sooner.

You're welcome.

My iphone 6 is pretty slow, can't wait to upgrade in January. No idea if it's the OS. But I have a 2010 iMac in the shop that became practically unusable after upgrading to Sierra. And my Adobe products stopped working because Java was incompatible with no way to upgrade or downgrade...have done searches and downloads.

Going to erase the drive and put Mavericks back on at some point.

I love my iphone 6, and my 2010 powerbook. Operating systems on board? The same ones that came from the factory. I never upgrade OS, and only apply security related patches. Very happy with this strategy.

iphones are temperature sensitive, regardless of OS. Brand new, an iphone 6 will reboot if it gets too cold.

Your Adobe suite is outdated.

CS5?

It's 7 years old at this point.

Go back to El Capitan if you can, Mavericks and especially Yosemite were RAM pigs.

This:

They don't intentionally brick the phone, they simply add functionality until your old phone can't hack it anymore.

Personally I wouldn’t mind a 3 millimeter thicker phone for quadruple the battery life.

But pole seems to put style above performance.

I wish dedicated buttons would make a comeback, but the touchscreen is here to stay. If they had a BLackberry that ran iOS I'd be there in a heartbeat. Form>function with the idiot selfie and social media obsessed masses- in other words, the whole market. it's all cool shiny and blingy like a fancy TV.

I don't even use apps, really. Currently have Chrome, what'sapp, FB / Messenger and Google Maps. That's it on my Iphone 7+ .

Yep, have a 7+ and delete an/or turn off access for the stuff I don't use. Battery lasts and lasts and it does everything I want.

**** buddy got a 10. It's nice. Nicer screen; fills in the whole front glass. The camera makes mine look like garbage. Simulated home button is iffy. I don't know if it's worth the 1 grand purchase price....

Personally I'm tired of spending so much money on these phones, and only having a limited shelf life.

How is this different from any other computer OS upgrade? When is the last time a software update reduced functionality or footprint?

CS5.5 I think, but it works perfectly for all I need it to do. I'll go back to El Capitan then, thanks. I may have to buy a new CS Suite since I have lost all download info used when we bought it from Adobe 10 years ago. But I definitely have to erase the drive and start fresh. It was very fast before the last upgrade.

Thank you. Appreciate info.

I've learned to change screens, batteries are easier.

I like the iPhone for personal use, but I would kill for an old school Blackberry for work email purposes. I could hammer out an email on that keyboard without looking. Can’t do that with a touch screen.

Wow.

I have always been a cheapskate. I avoided jumping on the cell phone bandwagon until most people I knew already had one. My price point was a free phone and $25 per month. AT&T had a promotional for a Nokia candy bar size phone that was tough as nails. It was a phone, and nothing more.

Of course over the years I upgraded to a smaller candy bar Sony phone that had some cool features, but I had AT&T disable data. I kept hitting a button and getting charged for a nickle or dime, and I did not care about text messaging.

Then my 80+ year old dad gave me his iPhone original because he was upgrading to a 3. I started playing with it as a gadget with no service and it was the sip of Kool-Aid that got me addicted to having a small computer and email at the ready anytime.

Now I have my iPhone 6S and it is 48 months old. I will wait for another 12 months before I upgrade again. I paid a lot for my 128 Gig iPhone 6S but it was a long way from $1,400. And I sure pay more per month than that old goal of $25 per month.

My phone has become a second (or is that third) brain. I would have a hard time functioning without the documents it has stored on it, and the access to email and the texting I do with my business partner. It has vital backups of much of the business stored on it. All locked up behind secure passwords. If the FBI can's get into a phone, I guess it is a secure platform.
