"couples skate" (meeting new people/making new friends)

i remember as a kid at the skating rink. the "DJ" would announce - couples skate; then put on a romantic love song and we would all nut-up and do our best getting a hot chick..no..any chick to skate with us.

the couples had it easy.

that's what i now call it when my wife gets me to meet up with other couples for outings.

"what are we doing tonight? couples skate?" she usually rolls her eyes at me..

i do love meeting new people. super interesting, as a single person, you hang out with singles..married, married people..

married with kids? yup..you guessed it. "gang skate?"

well, i got a new couples skate outing coming up. haha..the ladies called it a play date for the husbands. hubby is a British guy, looking to find some local hunting partners. this is gonna be too easy. they relocated here from Alaska!! this is one i am actually looking forward to.

Going skating would be a great way for the wife and I to meet new people!
I get to meet the EMT's, the admitting folks at the emergency room, the Dr. that stitches me up.

{old man alert} We were in group (church) and my wife mentioned she loves to play board games, a couple people chimed in "me too". I'm thinking of trying to arrange a board game night.

Weird timing for me, I guess I need a couples skate. Gym, work, shop/garage, sleep. Rinse repeat. I need to change something.

I have met more new friends through PCA than I can count. Some are just an acquaintance, many are friends that we exchange phone numbers and email addresses, and others are now truly close friends. After 4 decades I have friends coast to coast I met through PCA.

At this point I find it easier to make friends than to hook up with a new objet d'amore. Easier and more fun.

in my natural environment, i'm on the shy side of the spectrum. i dont talk to strangers that well.

funny enough, my 911SC did generate a bunch of new friends for me.

moving to a new city, away from all of those friends (okay, i'm far..but not super far) was a challenge for me. just driving to Oakland for a slice of pizza, ping pong game, beer..is a thing of the past. i am to far for that. a mountain bike ride now takes real planning.

i do love the random, "can you come over to help me install this 911 motor?" get together immensely.

My wife and I don't have many friends, and really don't like socializing, or meeting new people. We do have several close friends (a couple) that we go camping, out to dinner, or play cards, but not into any place there is crowds........and I'm perfectly OK with that ! We still do things with our grown kids/SO, and still do extended family things however.

Except for you guys... pretty much true, though. I really don't like people. Things go pear-shaped quickly with people involved. My wife and I are pretty tight. Don't need much from the outside. I wish I had that need, but I'm very content. I do love chatting with people, though... as long as it doesn't involve stick and ball sports

At "couple's skate" events, I find it fun to bring up topics, such as "sharpening chainsaws" threads.
