My wife has been cutting my hair for over 20 years but my cut is very simple . A # 2 on the clippers and go to town :D . Takes all of 10 minutes including the shaving of the back of the neck and clean up around the ears . Started with the # 2 cut when I lived in Orlando , it was always so friggen hot/humid for outdoor activity with a full head of hair . Been cutting it that way ever since , wife likes it I like it so it's a win win ;)

Same Korean lady has been cutting my hair for almost 30 years.
I'd post some pics but... |
One unit I was stationed at had this old timer just down the road who supposedly did most of the base. Anyway I had just got into town and before I officially reported aboard I went and had him cut my hair. Normal looking barber shop, one chair, barber pole sign, the norm right? Not so...the guy had smut books in every corner, years of them. I'm not talking just Playboys...the real raunchy ones where the gals look like their guts are hanging out.
There was nothing else to read. Creepy. While I was in there some lady brought her pre-teen son in to get his done. Talk about awkward...She just seemed to pretend there wasn't fuk books stacked waist high everywhere. Thinking back I don't even know how that was legal? This was back in the early 90's. Needless to say, I found a different place. I couldn't visualize myself happily reading away talking to the guys...different strokes I guess (pun intended).-WW |
I remember when I was about 10 years old my brother (9 years older) took me to his barber instead of my mom taking me to the one closest to the house. I quickly found out why we drove passed 4 barber shops to get there. This barber had a special shelf on the rack where he keep nudist magazines. My eyes POPPED out of my head when my brother handed me one. A totally naked woman on the cover holding a birthday cake. Remember it like it was yesterday. :D

First off... a $10 haircut? All the local chain haircut places charge $15-$20 (tip not included.)
Second, I have at least five or six barber to chose from. Thrird, a $2 haircut? I'm no fashionanesta but that can't be good... kinda like a $15 oil change. :D |

Before I settled on #3 I did some experimenting, there was an old navy guy working at one of the shops I go to. Told him "do whatever you think is best" He did a #2 I got home and my wife asked me "are you joining the army?" I still go to that shop (ironically, same place my mom took me when I was a kid with different owners) I now have a Filipino lady that works there that usually does my hair. |
I cut my own hair and plan to continue, unless I can find that SportCuts location on the commercial with the 5 or 6 blonds cutting hair.

As a teenager in the mid-'60s, I'd frequent a barbershop across the street from Queens surf break in Waikiki. The little lady barbers would marvel at my sun bleached hair, which was white on top, and brown at the roots. I liked that particular barbershop, as I always got a shoulder massage at the end of each haircut.
Anyhow, I was taken aback one day during my neck massage when my barber asked in a low voice, "You good looking boy .. you want girl?" I don't know if she was trying to set me up with her daughter or acting as a madam, but it was an uncomfortable encounter. I don't remember going back .. |

Souk owns the place, Toby's, just off base. Her husband is a retired Air Force guy. She is the real deal...the brains of any outfit. I hired her oldest daughter as an intern years ago, after doing a great job for my PMA she has gone on to bigger and better things. Souk's youngest daughter went to the Air Force Academy, still wearing blue as a Captain. Souk is a hammer, BTW. Although I have a quiver full, no stiff jokes...I respect her too much. |

I told my barber about being charged the same amount for full head vs thinning hair he tells me there's a finder's fee for guys like me. |

I guess there are benefits to being bald!
Although I bet I spend more on those damn razors that I would on haircuts. |
I "stiff" my barber every chance I get... but then again, I've been married to her for 40 years.

Didn't read all the replies but I'm with you Baz. I've changed barbers a few times because of similar things. The last time was the chick says "Do you want any of the crap in your hair?" Another was the bytch didn't listen to me what so ever just friggin' cut it the way SHE liked it.
This morning I actually tried getting my hair cut twice. I got to the shop 38 minutes before he was open, (8:30). There were already two cars waiting. I didn't have an hour to wait so I left, THOUGHT I had a doc's appointment. Turns out it's tomorrow so I figured I go back down, 5 people now waiting. That would have been a good 2 hour wait, without some guy getting a shave and or beard trimmed. He has hired a gal but not working today and she doesn't do a good job anyway. Geez I pay $20.00 plus a $5.00 dollar tip. A good haircut is worth it. |
