I stiffed my barber today......

First time since I began using him I ever stiffed him. Been going there for many years too. One man operation and usually does what is required, but there have been a few occasions where during a conversation about something he gets a little sideways to the point where it could be interpreted as arrogant, if not a bit abrasive.

And trust me - I always use due diligence when choosing subject matter and how I comment so as not to provoke anything. You do that when someone has the well-being of your hair in his hands.

Be that as it may, I guess he's not used to someone like me who likes to engage in meaningful conversation. So he tends to become obstinate at times.

So today as I take a seat in the barber chair, I ask him why there are little caster wheels under the foot rest. He says that where the brake usually goes but they never work that great. So I reply - if the purpose is for a brake, why are there now wheels....wouldn't that actually promote motion rather than slow things down? He replies "Bazza, I answered your question and if that's not good enough I don't know what to tell you." I was really taken aback but I let it slide and changed the subject.

Then later on, I remind him I prefer not to be spun around when he's done. He always does that so the customer can look at themself in the mirror. I prefer not to do it as I prefer to stand up first and then look in a different mirror he has that is closer so I see things better. So of course, when he's done, he spins me around and then says "I hope that didn't make you dizzy." with this smirk on his face.

So I stand up - hand him a twenty....he goes to his register and hands me back a five and five ones. A haircut is ten bucks and I usually tip him two dollars. Been doing that for years now. This time I take the change, tell him thanks - have a nice day, put the change in my pocket, and walk out.

Never going back. There's another shop here I was going to try anyway - just figured I'd go to my old barber today because of familiarity. He actually helped make my decision easier.

He must have thought he was going to get a tip because of the way he gave my change back. Sorry man - that's not how it works. Act like a douche and it's adios amigo...SmileWavy

He won't miss my business, I'm sure....but I can only handle so much......

If there were 19 customers waiting I woulda given him a mulligan.

I hate going to the barber, mainly 'cause they charge me the same as a guy with a full head of hair. I mean c'mon man, really?
I cut my own, when it finally grows out long enough to need cutting and when I butcher it enough that my wife complains, THEN I go.
Haven't been/seen the same barber twice in over 40 yrs either.

My local barber is a racist barbarian. I cannot believe someone has not knocked him in the face before. I went there with my son, and was shocked at the hate pouring from his mouth with about 5 other dudes in the room .
I wanted my son to get the old school barbershop experience, but not again . Supercuts it is. Besides, they have boobies there .

Was that not Clint in Dirty Harry ?

I would pay extra to go somewhere they DON'T talk to you. I cannot stand forcing conversation with barbers. They all wanna talk to you and know your life story when all I want to do is sit there in silence and enjoy the experience which is hard to do with someone gabbing your ear off. Especially when you can't hear what they're saying with clippers going by your ears.

Probably not a good idea to go back to that barber for a shave. Just sayin.

awkward silence

Whew. You’re only talking money. I was afraid . . .
Never mind.

Good point but only 1 waiting.

Only 1 in the chair when I walked in.

I cut my own hair. Really.

Saves me $50 every month or two. I've done it for two years now.

It's as good as the best barber/hairdresser cuts I've ever had. Plus I don't have grumpy "been out too late" days like my hot blonde lesbian hairdresser does.

He sounds like an ass hole. Good riddance.

I hear ya but he moved the TV set to the back room!

Used to have it in the corner so you could watch TV while in the chair.

Makes NO sense to me why he did that....because he sure doesn't have the gift of gab.

:D

There's a little joint here on beachside that does a $2 haircut...no lie!

Been there once - didn't get a great vibe so stayed with my regular guy. May have to revisit the $2 joint now...!

masraum 03-22-2018 04:43 PM

Yeah, not interested in talking.

I had a coworker go and get a haircut, apparently, he'd been to the place before and been happy, but this time he says they did a horrible job, so he didn't pay. Not that he didn't tip, he just didn't pay. But then, he's a wanker.

+ 1 for the hate getting haircuts crowd. Started doing my own 5 years ago.

URY914 03-22-2018 04:53 PM

My wife cuts mine about every three weeks.

I get my hair cut by a smoking hot 23 year old Indian girl in her garage at her parent's golf course home. Her Dad owns several gas stations. Crib is choice.

She finished a nursing degree just last year but cuts for extry coin.

Her Mom makes her look like a boy and her younger sister makes her Mom look like a boy. I have fixed all their cars. I am in.

I like it. I like it a lot.

$10. Tip $10 which is what I paid when she worked at Best Cuts. $15 plus $5.

Superlative haircut.
