Hate to break the news, but Pininfarina and Bertone no longer exist as Italian styling firms. Both went BK 5-6 years ago, everyone laid off, and their assets and name sold off. Really a trajedy that wasn't well reported at the time. Basically, every carmaker created their own in-house styling departments, including Ferrari, so there was no work left for them.

The last Ferrari styled by Pininfarina was the 458 Italia, which IMHO is a great bookend.

Perspective is that this is a Ferrari.

It isn't the pretty machines that Ferrari used to make.

Perhaps aerodynamics and bumper regulation are the ruling roost.

I would rather from an exterior styling standpoint have the Lexus SC500 that gets mocked than this Ferrari 812.

Happen to think my wife’s Tundra is pretty bad ass looking.

And my FJ has it’s appeal.

But yes. A lot of them look like origami dog turds.

The japanese had a wacky styling phase in the mid 70s too in case you forgot.

That Celica is a damn fine looking car, really liked those when they came out.

A lot of the bad styling is driven by pedestrian safety regulations

Yep....my 87 Supra Turbo didn't suck either...

I was reading re. why the Spindle Grill on Lexus. Some commented they (Lexus) want the cars to be noticed. Good or bad - it doesn't seem to matter. Some like the exaggerated grill - the others are noticing it. I frequently catch myself looking at those grills and saying how stupid they look - but I'm looking and that bothers me possibly even more.

I think the Japanese always had a wacky styling phase with a few cool cars mixed in. They all look like they were designed by the Speed racer anime artist.

had one of these too. Went from Super Beetle to '75 Celica GT to Alfetta GT to '82 Supra. Thought the toyoyo's were pretty good cars.

I think it’s a great design and concept. Small cheap sports car. Fits in their lineup under the GT86.

Tervuren 04-30-2018 05:06 PM

Dan, I like it.

Not sure it has a place in the U.S. market outside of our island territories.

I think color makes a difference on how it looks. I saw one in red that I thought looked really nice. I hated the 2013 to current Rav4 front end. This one appears to be going along the lines of the 4Runner with a bit if Subaru mixed in.

this. black, black on black. Sold my 76 Alfetta GT for it

Even a blind squirrel finds food.

Actually, one of the better looking Toyota's.

The bluntness is mostly regs, that gaping catfish maw is not. The front clip on the Fusion is decent. The Model S as well. Toyota and Lexus are all ate up with ugly.

I really, really want to like the new vette but can't over imagining it turning into a fighting robot.

The new civic is kinda growing on me.
