Cost to spay a puppy? OT

I can go to the Animal Rescue League and get it done much cheaper but decided to go to my local vet. I think he charged too much. $600 .What amount seems Reasonable to you? It was said to be an easy surgery, no complications.

Nope...not when I live down the street from a shelter that is always advertising low $ days for such.

There's a place in Houston that only does spay/neuter, and they do it pretty cheaply. $600 sounds like a bunch, but then this guy has to cover his costs, insurance, etc... Maybe he wasn't gouging, but was just charging what he needed to charge. It is surgery after all.

$50 in this area + $25 for shots. $600 is highway robbery

The local shelter has a spay/neuter clinic. $20 neuter, $30 spay. My vet charges $120 to spay, $40 to neuter. $600 is WAY outta line. For around here anyway.

Local vet near my home on rural VA charges around $500. Dog only cost $150.

That sounds about right for a Vet. We were looking at a full body scan for our beagle and it was around $300. Just spent over $100 for an office visit. She was acting sick and vet totally missed that she was losing an adult tooth (age 5+). So one hundred bucks for nothing. Tooth fell out on the floor, we found it the next day.

Dennis,
We had our puppy spayed (ovariohysterectomy) last month. Our total price was $106 and that included an overnight stay at the vets. $600 is way too much.

Was quoted 400 to 600. Didn’t expect 600.

You were gouged....based upon the quote above and "easy surgery, no complications" imo. Ask the vet why the descrepency...before finding a new vet...jmo.

Local spay clinic probably has it down to a science. I think we paid $80 seven years ago, I think our vet wanted over $200. Easy decision for us.

That is usually what I do also. If I was quoted $400-600 and it was an easy surgery why was I charged $600? That is my point. I will use another vet from now on.

I know a vet near you who owns an emasculator...wait...she only removes boy nuggets. Never mind.

my view is skewed. our prices are crazy. we pay hostage release money for pet teeth cleanings.

So I adopted a male lab about 10 years ago. The vet wanted $400. I told my wife we needed a farm vet not a suburban fru fru vet. Found one 15 minutes away for around $90.

The advertised difference was some sort of extra pain meds.

I promise, my dog never missed anything. No pain either.

Animal rescue league charged me 125 5 years ago to fix a stray. No more vets for me for this. I’m like Jack Benny- cheap even though I have the money.
