Yup. All caught up on homework and my grading, so I'm gonna spend my day time time getting ready for the 'cane season (check generator, cycle stored water supplies, re-locate extension cords, etc)

So we are naming non storms now?

Wow!

The last thing we need here is more rain. We have had 25"+ over the last 10 days.

Our retention is at capacity here. Another good rain event and we are going to have problems here.

Yeah, if it was only hurricane season. Which is June 1 through Nov. hey we are close enough.

We typically do not start paying attention until late July early August.

At least the guys that predicted the season get to put one named storm in the books for this season nice and early.

The only good thing is that it looks like a rain event and not much of a wind event.

Of course the Weather Channel has started listing storm surge amounts for FL. Nothing like getting people alarmed over a rain event.

The Fl State parks are very conservative about storms, at over 400 miles distance and at 40 mph, they announced the closure of the parks in this area yesterday afternoon.

So my brother and I are back at our place for the next few days.

Not only the volunteer hosts, but also all of the folks camping in these parks are out till the storm clears thru.
I feel for the folks that have traveled from far away and now find themselves looking for somewhere to ride out the storm. Sucks for them!

Cheers Richard

Saw hte moon and some stars last night, was actually quite nice here in NW Alachua county until about noon. Heavy rain until a little bit ago, clearing up but some bands still flying through. No real wind. Some thunder/lightning. Power flickered for 3 seconds (that is good... I'm in the country)

We got hammered here again last night.

I looked at my pool at 6PM and it was about 3" below the coping, I thought, I should probably backwash that.

By 6:45 it was overflowing. I had to go out in the storm and backwash it.

Dropped it a good 8" down to the bottom of the skimmer.

At 8:45 I had to go back out and backwash it again it was about to crest again.

I dropped it down about 6" when I looked out this morning it is back up.

Debating dropping it one more time, kind of shell shocked here.

Today the sun is out. Lets see how long that lasts.

After close to 35" of rain in 2 weeks I just expect another 4" every day.

As I remember the national media was recently claiming parts of Florida was in a horrible drought and may never recover. Has the recent rains helped that or it falling in the wrong areas?

Of course the media over-blows virtually everything.

So, it the drought over?

Well, mom's pond is back to where it was in the early 80s... but without the regular afternoon thunderstorms of summer and the twice a week rains of winter, it will shrink back down. If it weren't for the tropical storms and hurricanes of the past 6 years her garden would either be bigger or we'd have to actually buy a real mower....

Not much here from Alberto, other than about 3" on Sat night.

Our drought is a seasonal drought. Rainy season ends with the Hurricane season, Nov and basically little rain until late spring, early summer. Just depends on how warm the winter is to determine how dry and fire prone we will be.

Our area looks about normal right now with some earlier rains we had.
