Rebuild question

Well, I've owned this 1968 Targa for about 4 months. Mostly I've ordered books and asked questions. I've contacted a reputable rebuilder (good reviews on Pelican) and have had an estimate of $8,500 to rebuild the stock original 2.0. I thought the body was in rough shape, but have discovered that the rust is worse than I thought. I'm having doubts about the project. (And my spouse is getting nervous about the cost).

Just curious, is the price for the rebuild in line?

I'm starting to think of selling this, (to who my wife says!) and cutting my losses. I like this model, but I'm only fair with a wrench and I don't have the time to spend on this project. Any suggestions?

Post some pictures. Where are you located and do you have a garage?

I'm in the middle of California, Fresno. I do have a garage. I'll get some pictures posted, but they won't be pretty.

Yes, price could even be more. In this case does it have to be a newly rebuilt motor? How long did any rust take to get to its current state, could it be repaired in phases? Does she also like this model?

Good luck.

Regards,
