How to questions

Hi all, I'm trying to fix up this long hood. It has a few small holes on the nose. I cleaned them up, removed the bad stuff and welded them closed. My question though is, how to I remove any rust from the underside? Do I just spray some POR 15 back in there and hope I get it all covered or???

The holes

How can I spray behind this area highlighted in green? Another rust hole on the underside in red.

....not sure you can really get in there. You should cut out the rust hole and put in new metal as there is more rust around the opening. But getting behind to the underside of the whole hood is problematic. As it is a channel, perhaps you could tape over all the openings but one and put some liquid POR in there like the gas tank restorer. Then you could tape over your filler hole and swish it all around....
So, looks like you are doing a backdate...

That's kind of what I was thinking Chris, swish it all around like that. Just wondered if that was the best way or if I am overlooking something easier.

Can one use, say a 3/4" or 1" hole saw and cut some strategic holes in the channel to lighten it up and allow access for a spray nozzle to coat the back side or is that just a bad idea structurally?

Yep, back dating the 85. Trying to make a light weight car for the street.

Eric:

POR-15 will not kill the rust, merely encapsulate it. Prior to caoting (POR-15 or other coatings), you will need to degrease the area and use a rust killer (Rust mort, naval jelly etc) to convert the rust to something that will not continue to degrade.

The problem with a closed place like yours is how to get the rust killer in and then cleaned out appropriately. You may want to consider using something like EXTEND that you spray on to stop the rust and since it is not exposed, leave the resulting coating.

We could discuss toight at B&B but I will not be in attendance.
