As I removed the rear e-brake parts...not sure those will come out as nice as the ones in the 912 did... I might have to replace a few parts in there... I already have a new set of e-brake shoes... but thinking that I will need to get new springs, pins, etc... I will try cleaning the expanding bows, those I might save along with the adjuster... but the springs, concave washers, and those pins..have a lot of rust on them...

  • (4) 901-352-959-10 (superseded by 901-352-959-11) Roll pin
  • (4) 901-352-957-10 Compression Spring
  • (4) 901-352-955-10 Concave Washer
  • (2) 901-352-932-10 Return Spring Small
  • (2) 901-352-954-10 Return Spring Large
  • (4) 911-352-090-00 (superseded by 911-352-090-01) Expanding Bows
  • (2) 901-352-953-10 Compression Spring (goes between the bows)

EDIT: Used the discount coupon I got from Pelican for the Torsion bars... rear torsion bars are on their way.

Removed the suspension on the driver's side...

This one was in really bad shape...

Bearing removed...

Spring plate out...

Hubs... need to remove the bearing race from them...

Will be using this for that...

I was able to get one of the torsion bars out... the other one is giving me a fight :banghead: ...

And cleaned the trunk latch... not sure if I need to send them... they look decent.

Well... got longer and stronger bolts...

And gave it a try again (yesterday night I could not remove the bearing races...)

Look at that!

Let's use the puller now...

It is coming out!!

Used a spacer from the bike for the rest of the travel... it was the perfect diameter

Done!

Rear-axle trailing arms removed.

The inner pieces and rubber inserts were easy to remove... Now I need to press these out...

Elephant racing has a cool tool for removing the split bushings - Split Bushing Removal Tool but I don't feel like spending that kind of money (US$120.00)...

I can see that tool being great for somebody doing this often... I will go the chisel and BFH route...

Just got an email from Pelican that my order for the ER Bushings is delay because of some bolts that I added to the order....argghhh... those bolts I add just to take advantage of the order placed... and of course, I get the email at 10pm ET when they are gone and I can't tell them to take them out and ship... another day lost....

The other task that I was going to do was to replace the master cylinder for a new 930 unit that came with the car... then I saw these videos and decided that this was a weekend task and not something I wanted to do during the week nights...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPjNdHN64ss

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWlvDx4D4rw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkEEwbV-YZ0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dydk1eW_eMM

I don't have a lot of that stuff in the way like the guy in the videos...

But it requires going inside the car, undoing the brake pedal, etc. With the car on the lift, opening the doors to do all that is not as easy... not with my non-slender figure at least, lol... so I was going to wait until the suspension was done, install the wheels back and roll it out for that...

Thinking about it some more... maybe a task for Daniel to help me with... he can do the stuff inside the car while I work in the front...

Well... this came in today... care to guess what is wrong with these photos?

I know this is not Pelican's fault. These boxes are packaged at Sway-A-Way... but second order of products from Sway-A-Way (via Pelican) where I do not get what I ordered and the outside labels are correct, but the parts inside are not...

Well... called Pelican, requested a return on the incorrect part and a credit... and ordered the Elephant Racing rear torsion bars from them as well. After reading several threads of bars breaking... I just could not trust those SAW bars long-term... front will stay as they are (Sway-A-Way bars in front). There is no logic to this madness...

On other news... cleaning the floor of the garage again... but first, took the time to paint the rear shocks.

One of the torsion bars would not come out... read somewhere to use a broom stick from the other side to get it out... worked like a charm!

Installed the shocks...

Talking

So I started to clean the trailing arms... tried this first...

That did not do much... so I went old school with a brush and some gasoline... voila! All nice and clean.

Then I removed the bushing inserts... now I am ready for when that order gets here (should be in Friday...)

Cleaned and painted these...

and these... Need to drop the other parts at Seminole Metal Finishing for the zinc plating...

And installed the bearings...

Make sure that the top plate is centered on the bearing...

No heating, no freezing of anything... just wrench away...

With the tool... it is definitely a one beer job... but there are two bearings and then there is the staring at a job well done... so turned into a three beers job...

Looking at the parts for mounting everything back... noticed that I ordered the wrong gaskets for the drive shafts...

Okay... gasket comes with the CVJ boots I ordered... we should be good there...

And not using the grease that comes in the kit... will be using Red Line 80401 CV-2 Synthetic Grease...

Last task for the day/night... removed rubber bushings from spring plates:

These are going to get yellow zinc plated... need to decide if I install the black powder coated or these...

Under the weather fighting a cold... nothing done this week. But these came in for refreshing the CVJs:

Trailing arm bushings should be here this afternoon as well... Rear torsion bars should not be too far behind...

Now...if this stupid cold would just move on...

More parts came in... had to get that cool oil storage bag... have one in the 964 and in the X5... makes sense to do so in this car (so it does not feel left out).

Plastic protective edging (901-564-433-05)

I have the clear 3M adhesive... was not aware that it came in black, found out searching for threads on installing the seals... (link)

so ordered one and will be here in a few days... then I will install all the sunroof seals...

Decided to tape them in place to get the memory out....
