Thank you John! SmileWavy

On other news. Sunroof is done:

And in the process, found the sunroof tool I could not find earlier...

I think I answered my own question... I was not clear on what I was looking at... I thought the PO messed up both ends of the taillight harness... but I went to the garage and removed it and the second harness is fine... it is the section that goes to the actual light bucket the one that needs work at the end of it (where it would go into the light buckets), the plug that mates with the rest of the harness in the car is fine...

I should be able to rebuild this harness...

Need to go to the local VW place and see if they have this grommet for the wires as they go into the rear cover... and then figure out what wire goes where...

wachuko 02-26-2016 12:22 PM

Rear torsion bars arrived!

I love the color you have chosen. Your work is outstanding. Glad your son is involved in the build too - very cool experience for him and you.

That is the best part of all of this... seeing my son getting involved with the project. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps842096f2.gif

So I started to work on replacing the master cylinder for the 930 unit the PO had in one of the boxes of parts that came with the car...

Assembly removed:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psc3t44iit.jpg

Some rust that turned out to be just surface rust from some leak of previous master cylinder...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8iow4nyz.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psj9dyc4sp.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pszmqkodig.jpg

Inside everything looked great

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pssxazcagp.jpg

Painted using caliper paint that I had left over from the caliper reconditioning:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psba5nd3m4.jpg

Open the box... guess what? Not the correct 930 master cylinder... crap... Needs to be Part #: 930-355-011-03.. order placed for the correct m/c...

wachuko 02-28-2016 06:32 PM

Since I need to wait for the master cylinder to get in... figured I would work on the tail lights wiring...

Old ones donated the internal wiring. Took a few photos for reference... to make sure I new where everything went... harness was easy to match since the PO did female/male different on each side... that was good...

Old units were in pretty bad shape...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...s839akwkg.jpeg

Units donated by Douglas, pretty darn good!! :)

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...s7yuo2qk1.jpeg

Let's move the wires over...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pswndvrqgz.jpg

I am in Orlando, FL... I use Seminole Metal Finishing (Seminole Metal Finishing Inc | Seminole Metal Finishing Inc). Very happy with their work. But this batch, with all the parts that needed baking, and because some were so dirty, and add to that the rubber pieces from the bushings that were stuck to the torsion bar pieces (and I did try to clean that as much as I could, but they had to sandblast a lot of these parts)... it was not cheap...:crying:

A few more photos. Can't wait for the weekend to start!

I had to sort everything...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psskoj01rj.jpg

This also came in yesterday. Correct 930 master cylinder:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pslqokrrsw.jpg

Installed on booster with new hoses:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pshye8aaka.jpg

Also installed the rear e-brake... but I am ordering new E Brake Expanders... I knew those might be on their last leg... but once I saw them back from plating, I can now clearly tell that those need to be replaced... And I know...I need to remove it all to install those e-brake expanders but I had to take the photo :D

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pssyg3iitw.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pssorfl4ek.jpg

I also need to call Seminole Metal Finishing... I am missing the bottom part for the engine lid lock upper assembly. In the photo I just used a washer to hold the spring in place...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfkeatu0c.jpg

Correct parts in this photo...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psogweaer0.jpg

First time something like this happens, and I have taken very small stuff... hopefully they find it...

More baby steps... installed the rear engine lid lock lower part...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psmirnzkl0.jpg

wachuko 03-06-2016 09:27 AM

Had to go out to get new lock washers for the spring plates..

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps7orwbsfa.jpg

Installed the front lower and upper lock mechanism

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psisaj58op.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps0ijjqwsl.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psnop6icbo.jpg

Now working on the front lights to connect all that and be done with the front wiring...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psqljujxuz.jpg

Finishing the brake master cylinder install...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psvrqu5dyh.jpg

Lines and plugs connected...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psjpanapcy.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps5k4dxqsa.jpg

All connected inside...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps7urjfrhd.jpg

That is all for tonight...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psh0cauw3c.jpg

wachuko 03-12-2016 05:59 PM

One down... one to go...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psne3ljof1.jpg

And this is back together... had to buy a used one to take the part and install it here...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psdipzluyx.jpg

Also, got these this morning:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9pn2lsuz.jpg

Now to finally finish the rear brakes and mounting the tail lights!!

Removed center reflector, installed missing clips... installed rubber trim/seal between bumper and car...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psg7kzkbwd.jpg

Installed center reflector and one of the side tail lights... One side done...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psoxapgjt1.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psj7kwmneb.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pshgocq2fm.jpg

Don't forget the wiring... plug in place

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pstnifives.jpg

And car harness plugged in...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psj7jq6cpk.jpg

wachuko 03-12-2016 05:59 PM

Engine lid upper lock in place...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pspeqlouru.jpg

Replaced the expanders... I had to use the new spring as the old one was bad....

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psunf8ipav.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psar1qznnl.jpg

And installed the hub... one of them... the other one, I messed up the bearing (just placed an order for another one from here)... the hub pushed the half of the race out as I was installing it... my mistake... :o

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse56lljg3.jpg

Now to continue with the driver side of the tail light... finishing the harness tonight... I thought the car had the correct lock nut... I guessed wrong... so I had to also order two more of those...

I also order a set of horns since the one in the car were broken...

Back to the garage...

wachuko 03-19-2016 01:02 PM

I was able to replace the damaged bearing... I am getting good at this

Removed everything again...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psiynazwdt.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psugcy91ek.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psgyh9sxlu.jpg

New one ready to go in...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfbofor23.jpg

I have really put this tool to good use...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psg63tv3qo.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psaom3r0yj.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psopoe5buj.jpg

Had to use the puller again to remove the race from the hub...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psq3nk0mkz.jpg

E-brake assembly goes back in place...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps3dpwyk3v.jpg

And this time I used the same tool that I used to extract and install the bearing, to install the hub... everything went in smooth, no risk of pulling out half of the race from the bearing... I am ashamed of grabbing the 3lb mallet to do the first install... what a stupid idea that was...

Very impressed with this build and what you're able to accomplish. Also, I do my best work the second time around :)

I am learning so much just by pure repetition :D  SmileWavy

Baby steps... with the new special nuts, installed the driver's side tail light.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psuysdk3oo.jpg

wachuko 04-09-2016 04:29 PM

Baby steps... installed new wing nuts for the cover...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps1ipsqrdp.jpg

Also... I decided to replace the other bearing as well... feel better now. They both turn smoothly and there are no weird noises...

Installed the Elephant racing rear torsion bars and stock spring plates... this was fun as I forgot what nuts were supposed to be used... had to look at many photos to figure it out... and not sure on the direction of the two bolts that go to the arm... some photos have those entering from behind, others from the front... my car, looking at the before photos, had one going in one direction and the other one in the opposite direction

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...pseyznriih.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psrcsbwop4.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...psggq4uxfm.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps7xladocb.jpg

Now to install the calipers and brake lines... :)
