what would be the best solution to fix this?
find a replacement piece? maybe fabricate?

the 1st thing that has to be done is pull the rear glass and strip the areas down to bare metal to see just what is under the paint .
after that you plan on the way it should be repaired .

The best way to fix that is to remove all of the rear upholstery off of the seats and parcel shelf. By the time it rusts where your pictures show, there has been much more damage on the inside of the car than on the outer body.

You will also have to remove the rear window and fix the area that the glass sits in.

Why windshield trim should be a regular maintenance item.
