356 outlaw sources?
I can't see the sense in paying a premium for a nice 356 and then chopping it up to make it an outlaw. On the other hand, I do not want to buy a beat up tub and use that as a starting point.
Is there a source for aftermarket 356 bodies/tubs that match the original 356 in dimensions and shape, etc.? I see the Beck site, but they look to be different than a 356 in the photos on the site. DOes anyone know if they are a match for a 356? Are there other sources (e.g. pipe frame and body shell)?

A company is starting to reproduce 356 A coupes. I'll try and find the link. I think they start a $19,000.

SWEET! Fiberglass or steel body?
And what's the source of that beautiful silver/gray? Modern color code, or vintage? It's just stunning ! ! ! ! ! Last edited by TC/TeamEvil; 05-03-2007 at 06:43 AM.. |

My 356 outlaw...I had the same dilema until I came across this fiberglass 356A built by Martin and Walker ( 904GTS fame) in the UK. Excellent quality kit!

TC,
The color is the new GT Carrera Silver Met. The 356 is real, 1957 coupe with 901 IRS, 915 Trans, 72 remote oil tank, 2.5 L MFI Engine, twin plug, 11.5 comp. In the picture is my painter Larry from Highfill's Auto Body, Seal Rock, OR.

Damn, you guys are gonna get me in trouble!
I've got an outlaw too! Owned it since 87..back when outlaws were sacrilegious. I've never driven it.. just been stockpiling parts for the restoration.. not rusy at all. Just needs a full paint & body resto and engine build. I've been trying to wait until I finish off a couple other projects before I get inyto this one. I can't wait! I should be moving it soon to my new storage.. I'll post a pic back on this thread as I pull it out of its dusty hibernation. Looking for a complete set of C/SC disc brakes... What's up bt1211.. didn't know you were into these too! P-

Nice outlaws!!!
I started with a '62 356B T6 and it has been a race car [legal for vintage] since 1963. I always toyed with the idea of making it a street / outlaw ![]() Emery: To bad you missed out on the '64 C that Eli had. Got it for ~$10K and then sold it. Was in good shape but needed another $10k to be "pretty". Contact Eli and see if you can track who he sold it to. Perhaps they want something different now ....? |

Aways like the way you're car looked.. nice job. Look forward to seeing it and that fast 911 at the Jefferson 500 next week! Paul

I'm going to bring this one inside in a couple of weeks and start in on it. I'm inspired by the images here and I'd really like to try my hand at doing it up as an outlaw. |

Didn't know that! Do you know why?
I see that they still have the Jefferson advertised and I think I even heard mention about it by the local PCA. Had my weekend all set.

I read on the website that it was "lack of entries"?! Is there a competing event on the East coast?
Hard to understand. I've gone several times to watch and there is always a good turn out. I was planning on going...

Henry, Jase...
I also confirmed yesterday with Summit that the event has been cancelled. Like you said.. due to "lack of entries" ! I wonder about that as this event is usually full of participants and spectators alike...I suspect a disagreement over funding between Redman's group and Summit Point. Just my 02 cents worth.. If I can only make it to the Point twice a year, its for the Jefferson 500 and the PCA Potomac Club Race. Nothing else vintage on the East Coast that I'm aware of until the Pittsburg Vintage Races. Oh well free weekend, where's that "honey do" list? P-
