Pretty strange. I've been out for 3 or 4 years. I was probably in for 5 or 6. At one time I read their antiquated e-mail forum and got sick of it. Or my wife did because I would forget to delete.
So last week I got a card in the mail to register in the club again. I'm sending it in tomorrow with a note to please change their forum to something like this one. There is just so much knowledge there. I used to get a kick when the Maestro (r.i.p.) and someone else would go at it. I thought so much of the Maestro I bought all his books, and had him do my engine 2 times. It still runs like a sewing machine 10-12 years later.

Yeah! Let your voices be heard!? Or, work with what you have!
I usually just lurk but this trips my trigger.
The only thing that those of you who are complaining are missing is that those "few" individuals that are "resistant" to change are also the most valuable members of the List. Sometimes you have to work with what you have. Personally, I find the List to be very easy to manage. I get daily emails in digest. But I also search the "Archives" of the Registry's List on the website daily. I find it much easier to search the archives than searching any of the current forums. I do a generic search for the days date. This will show you every post for the day. You can select what you want and pass over what you do not. Very efficient and painless, no need for excessive emails and you can still post just like you always have/had. Yeah, no pictures that is a drawback. But I state again, sometimes you have to work with what you have. Having The List is much more valuable than pictures. Just because it is new, doesn't make it better. Best Regards, Jared |

I don't see what the fuss is. You want a forum? You've got it right here.
I think both formats have their advantages. I happen to like the 356 Registry list the way it is, and I don't understand why some people seem to get their feelings hurt if everyone doesn't share their opinion that a forum is the ONLY way to go. |

All opinions welcome ![]() There seems to be a way we can make every one happy, I copied this from The Samba. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=255392 There is no reason it has to be an either/or (forum or list). There are tools out there that integrate the two formats in such a way that a list can co-exist with a forum. Messages sent to an email list are automatically reflected on the forum and vice versa. Completely transparent to the user. In fact, I believe this is what those who favor a forum REALLY want/need! There is a wealth of information and a very active community on 356Talk, and you want to build on top of that. To create a separate structure that won't include the contributions of the email list is no better than just using Pelican or Rennlist. Why start from scratch when you don't have to? |

Hello,
Since I joined this forum about (20 minutes ago), I figured I'd start here. The 356Talk List is what it is. A bunch of older but wiser folks who above all else love 356’s includes me (more the older then the wiser). I don't like the format they (we) use but its representative of the personality of the List as a whole. I stumble (digest format) into more topics that I find I have an interest in by having to screen through some of the more mundane crap (like the ubiquitous argument over replicas or the ever present rants about evil-bay). I joined this as an adjunct to the geezers and of course to both learn and impart the 356 experience. BTW I’m 63 and way upside down in a numbers matching '62 S/R S-90 resto, but more on that after I install another suppository. Steve Hatfield (aka shat) Fort Walton Beach, FL |

Effective today, the Talk List has changed to a BBS format!!!!!!!! Yippee! And those who prefer can still receive posts as emails the old fashioned way (which hopefully keeps the older guys happy and, more important, involved. The forum is here:

BTW, don't look now but the talk list is almost no more. The forum debut was today about the time you were joining up here. Next time I am heading that way I will get in contact. Good luck with the resto. |
