Is this THE 4 cam engine?
Can't believe how much they're worth, even in pieces...
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/pts/1131833127.html sorry not 911 related!

That is it, I know they are high as hell, but I may be wrong but I think he may be optimistic, you will have another small fortune having it rebuilt, but for the right car it may complete the package.

Yes it is. One the top right photo of the head, you can see the cam drive shaft on the left. Lower right hand photo, you can see the roller bearing crank.
If your 401(k) has taken a beating, buy one of these and sit on it for a few decades as your retirement fund.

$60,000!!!
A fully assembled 4 cam motor... Now that would be something for the game room.

That seems about right for a core.

There are not many people skilled in assembling those anymore... shaft and gear driven overhead cams, and setting them up properly with expansion rates and everything...
I used to be around those everyday. Some in cars and some on motor stands. I remember little flywheels that were on the back side of the dual overhead camshafts. Only engine I ever seen that on and I think they were on just one of the cams on each side. It's been quite a while since I've looked at one. |

A friend of mine rebuilds these. When I was getting to know him, I asked if he was married. He said he was kinda married to these cars.

A neighbor of mine in the 1970's used to rebuild these. Jim Wellington used to own Rennsport Werk in Campbell or maybe Santa Clara. I believe he now lives not too far from the address in the ad.
I remember him giving me a black T-shirt around 1977 that said "Real Carreras have 4 cams". Wish I still had it but likely wouldn't fit these days. ![]() Mark '80 SC |

Dave Coleman in West Virginia (304-725-8333) builds these. He got a few from Bruce Jennings.

I heard that there was a guy in Texas or somewhere that had a bunch of these, and was installing them into motorcycles. This was quite a few years ago.

My understanding is that Wellington is retired, but maybe he's got some old stock that he's decided to liquidate. If I needed an engine gone through, or even if I was trying to find one, I would get in touch with Bill Doyle up in Jackson Hole at Rennwagen. He's really the top 4 cam man in the country these days.

Yep,
That's the one. It's still here in Boulder at Conway's place. He's talked about building a 912 engine and putting it in there, but it's one of those "when I find some time" projects that's way down on the pecking order.
