Need help diagnostic shift leaver problem
Hello,
1980 SC Targa, 120K During a 200Km drive, I lost my 5th, rear and 3rd gear! No grinding noises, no weired sound, I just can not shift into them as if the shift lever was blocked from going there... Any clue what might be wrong and where to "dig" to find the problem and fix it? 1st, 2nd and 4th work with no issues althrough I need to change the clutch cable... Thank you Cyrille Last edited by hpmad; 06-19-2018 at 12:08 PM.. |

Did the shift coupler slip out of alignment?
Do a search for "shift coupler adjustment" or look in the 101 projects book if you have it.

See also this link that shows how the internal shift fork, when loose, can cause issues. Drain oil first, have new gasket in hand.

Hello,
Well I pulled things appart and the bushing that holds the link is completely destroyed (in 2 parts)! I am talking about this bushing: https://cdn4.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/101_Projects_Porsche_911/37-Shifting_Improvements/images_small/Pic5.JPG So, I have ordered replacement for said bushing and the "cup" and will see how much that helps... If not enough, then I will look at changing the back coupling. Thanks for the pointers, Cyrille |

Hello,
I changed the bushing and ball cup under the gear lever and all is now well! Thanks for the quick diagnostic. Cyrille |
