Installing at MSD 6AL, model 6425

Hello installing a MSD ignition in my 1982 911SC and would like to confirm a few things.
After a bit of time making a custom bracket for the unit to mount to the aluminum relay panel I am down to a few electrical connections I would like to confirm.
I am installing with spade connectors to the former Bosch CDI 6 pin connector. So far I have done the following:

- Large Red wire, to starter and connected to battery cable connection

- Heavy Black wire, to engine aluminum relay panel ground

- Small red wire, to 6 pin connector contact 15, ( red wire)

- Orange wire, to 6 pin connector contact A, ( white wire to (+) on coil)

- Black small wire, to 6 pin connector contact 31/1, ( brown wire to (-) on coil)

I have yet to do the following and assume these are my connect points:

- Gray wire, to 6 pin connector contact TD, (Black with violet strip)

- Green MSD wire, in separate harness for magnetic pick up, to 6 pin connector contact 7 , ( green wire center core)

- Violet MSD wire, in separate harness for magnetic pick up, to 6 pin connector contact 31D, ( shielding of the green wire)

Lastly white wire will not be used.

If anyone that has installed in a similar 911 could confirm what I have written above. Thank you all.

Jeff-Do yourself a big favor and have Timmy2 make you a connecting harness to go between the 6 pin engine plug and the msd. You will still need to find a 12v source for the msd red wire. I piggybacked it to the bottom fuse holder on mine.

Sounds correct, if it starts and runs crappy, swap the violet and green wires. Some MSD units require it that way.

Your ‘71 will be different due to having points and a 3 pin CDI.

Fellas, I have a 79SC and about to install the same MSD 6425 as one of next winter’s projects.

If I end up needing a tach adaptor, I already have tach adaptor MSD 8920 which has a red (power), black (ground) a purple and a white.

Am I correct to say the grey wire from the MSD would then connect to the White from the tach adaptor and the purple from the adaptor to where the grey would have gone to without the tach adaptor? Hope I did not confuse anyone.

I plan to wire the MSD Box first without the tach adaptor to see if it functions fine. If it does, then no worries. If I need to add the tach adaptor, I just want to confirm I wire it up correctly. Thanks for any help.

yes swap.
green goes to shield. the MSD triggers on the rise of the trigger, bosch triggers on the fall of the trig.

if you start it and the RPMS go very hi, it is backwards.

what advantages are folks realizing going to the MSD setup and what PU are you using to replace points?

Pertronix is used instead of the point setup. Some people like pertonix and some don't along with the msd box. My 77 911S had both and the car seemed happy.

Even more confusing is that the Streetfire is opposite of the 6AL.

It's Murphy's Law. Whichever way you first wire the trigger wires will be the wrong way for your specific car and CD module. Always plan on having to swap wires before you wrap everything up.

Is all this stuff true of the use of the MSD on an 1985 3.2? Any tips on locating the unit?
