I guess you could also throw in 7" and 9"
and if I go with 8" in the front I will probably go for the 944 offset for brake clearence... But what are the handling advantages??? I know 9"s can even slow down the top speed...anyone have any opinions? And in mu right front wheel well I see rubbing of the INSIDE of the tire on the wall of the tub..what is causing this? the rubbing is in the north west quadrant if looking at the tub from the outside... is it too much camber? or is the the notorious asymatry of these cars? I think the car was in a minor wreck in the rgiht rear, but can't imagine that would throw off the front. Would changing the 6"s for 7" or 8" increase the prob or is most of the width displaced away from the tub... thanks MJ PS what are you running on black beauty jack? I think it was 7 and 9" no? |

I'm running 7 & 8 with 205/55 16 front and 225/16 rear. My car is lowered a little more than euro height, fender lips have been rolled and has about 1.5 degrees of negative camber. I like the look, I would put 9's on the back if I had them, just to fill the back with more meat. The only time I've had any rubbing was on the left front, during a driver's ed at Thunderhill in turn 7. the turn is similar to the cork screw at laguna, with a tight right hander, while coming down hill.

With added negative camber, you will see a tendency for the inner wheel wells to rub with wider tires. As far as what wheels to go with, 8 and 9's if money is no object. They will bolt right on and cause no problems if you don't go crazy with tire width. In most of these cases, your going with the same tire size, but increasing the rim width for sidewall stability. I have 7 and 8's on mine. I run 8 and 9 by 17 with after market wheels. There offsets let my fun 225 and 255 front and rear with no rubbing.

If you have rub INSIDE, putiing 6, 7, or 8X16 911 fuchs will not change, as the backspacing is the same.
8X16 from a 944 Turbo will worsen the trouble, having more backspace. How is your geometry? is the shell bent? GeorgeK |

I have the 7 & 9s (205 and 245/45). Really GREAT look.
As far as advantage. I think having a 8" front you can easily run 225/50 and 245/45 (F&R). I wish I had put 225/50 on front instead of 205s. I get a lot of push now. It has been very difficult for me to bring the rear-end out before the front comes loose on the street tires. I think 8 (944) and 9 rears would be the hot ticket with some 225/50 and 245/45 around. The 8 would be a better match than the 7 with 225s. Then again your will notice a great deal of slower acceleration with 8 & 9s. I noticed a slow down going from 6 & 7 to 7 & 9s ![]() Good luck and Have FuN! ------------------ Nick Hromyak '85 Carrera 7 & 9 Fuchs Havin' Fun in Sacramento |

7x16 +23.3 mm os 911 Fuchs w 205/55 should fit the front of any 911 with no rubbing anywhere. If it does rub now, better find out why!
Given the same tire, the wider rim will always give slightly better acceleration because the sidewall is stretched more, lowering the car a bit. The increased friction and air resistance due to a wider wheel or tire is negligible. 8" front and 9" rear rims give the tire greater leverage(89911 called it stability, same concept), allowing the tread to maintain contact longer. At least up to the point where the rim is too wide for the tire. Each tire has an optimum designed in rim width. Consult the tire manufacturers for optimum rim widths, they are often published on their web sites. Tires as large as 245/40x17 can be made to fit the front of a 911 with a little work and judicious offsets. 275/40x17 can be fitted in the back with the same caveats. ------------------ Bill Verburg My Home Page |
