Color of wires behind fuse panel

I disconnected a bunch of wires from fuse panel by mistake. With the help of forum members.....one in particular...thanks Gerry!....I am getting things resolved slowly but surely. But there are 6-8 small. .5 sized wires that I can't say for sure the color of. I tried to trace to where they come out of the bundled harness behind panel and I can't determine color. Tried rubbing with a cloth with alcohol on it. Nothing
Is there's solvent that will allow me to see colors if I wipe on? Any other suggestions?

Can you tell roughly where they belong? Top, bottom, left side, right side? There's not a lot of play with those harnesses ,the wires should kinda fall into their location pretty well, I bet we can figure them out if you knew more closely where they go.

That being said, most of the very thin wires are lighting, if I recall correctly. All of those are grey based wires, and all are on the far right side of the fuse panel.

If you can't find something to expose the colors on the wires, I guess you'll have to do it the hard way. In that case, you're lucky it's only 6-8 wires assuming all the others are hooked up right. I'm only passably savvy in the electrical department. But I'd take the wiring diagram and make a list of the unknown wires and the six to eight destinations for them according the diagram. Then I'd use a VOM to test the first wire for continuity to the six to eight destinations (long wires and insulated alligator clips). When you get continuity, you'll know where that wire goes. Now you're down to one less wire and destination, etc., etc. Maybe somebody with more knowledge about tracking circuits will chime in.

Post a photo of what you are dealing with.
Are the wires painted or is something else coating them so you can’t see the colors?
Solvent and even some dish soaps will remove the colored tracers on the wires. Don’t make that happen...

Use an exacto knife to very very gently scrape off whatever is making the wire colors unreadable.
Even a photo of where the wires enter the sheathing would help.
You should be able to remove some of the sheathing to find unaffected areas of the wires.

Can you guess by the length? Where is a comfortable fit in the panel for them. This may narrow it down a bit.

I always take a photo before I start ferkin about with things.

i should NEVER touch wiring i can take apart and assemble a 911 motor but i get lost if there is more than one wire
