Got one of my old hoists up in the carport. Can stash 3 cars out there and some parts shelves. The plan is to enclose it.

An insert to burn wood in that reconditioned car port would be nice I think.

Got a pellet stove in the main shop that works fairly well. I still have to run power to the carport. At least the conduit is there already.

I am 70 as well and far from retirement! I am aware that some of the "ole timers" are still around in this part of the world (southeast). In fact, many of these Master Porsche Mechanics are well into their 70's and still going strong, are highly sought after and truly love their craft.

I recall, Mickey Rooney, who worked into his 90's once said, "why retire, when you can inspire". You sir are a master of your craft, a tremendous benefit to the members on this board and unselfishly through the years has offered so much vital information to so many. You are our mentor John and I wish you good health and success as you go forward with your new endeavor.

Congratulations on the “simpliar lifestyle”...
On a side note, how do you like the Rotary Lifts? I am planning on a purchase of one for my new garage for work/storage of the 911.

The carport lift is a Western. The shop lifts are BendPak and a Rotary. The pads are a tad higher than my older 8ft tall Westerns I had in the old shop, so lowered 911s and those with funky rockers and body kits may need some jacking to get the pads under them.

Going down hill fast. 6 story condos, old businesses forced out for condo construction, high rents and escalating taxes and city fees for anything they can think of. Leaving in the nick of time.

I've been on this site a while and I know Herr Walker personally. Just can't say enough about this guy, except to strongly suggest reading his posts. In person I have learned to also listen very carefully. I dunno how many decades he has worked on these cars. The dude knows 911s.

I recall quite a few years ago when I first discovered the Pelican 911 site one of JW’s responses struck me as an absolute selfless gift to others. Here is a professional mechanic who was more than willing to share his time and the expertise that he had acquired over many years to assist others on this site.

His concise responses and dry wit are always greatly appreciated, not by just the initial requester, but countless others who scour this site in search of assistance.

Have a wonderful semi-retirement. I hope to visit you sometime after I retire at the end of 2019 to help me complete my old 911SC build. My old SC has been keep going for 10 years now with the advice of experts like John. Many Thanks for all the years of assistance John.

May John stay healthy as busy as he wants to be! His advice is always welcome on this forum.

Up and running, pretty much. Had several jobs in since Dec 1st. Got the carport enclosed, metal siding and electricity next. '77 euro 3.0 carrera tomorrow for a top end and case studs, so I guess the bills will get paid.

Question... I believe that I know your answer, 'but' are you the owner of the 'heavy metal' in your shop?...The '32 Highboy, the '32? Dodge? on the hoist, the '49? Olds, the '49-51?' Ford 'Woody' Wagon?...If so, it maybe best for you to use some of your time to finish those rare 'jewels' 'ay.' :)

'Many' moon's ago, I also had owned two of them, but both were full fendered; A '32 Roadster, including a '32 coupe...

John can offer details about those cars but yeah, I think they belong to John. He loves those old boats. The one on the rack...I'm watching that one. HUGE long car. Cadillac, I think. Began life as a sedan. John thought it would be cooler as a coupe (two door). It has the cool fenders and the cool spare tire covers against the body right behind the front fenders. Cool grille. He likes to build cars the original maker should have built but didn't. John is a throwback. Work ethic, attention to detail, generosity, respect. Characteristics you don't see much these days. Can't say enough good things about the man. Loves music. Plays guitar. Sings (I am told).

I am very happy for John. I am guessing that John can report a significant improvement in his overall life and situation. Not having to pay that rent and deal with regulations and weird city people. No commute. Finally....peace of mind. Congrats, John.

You can never have too much fun. The old one on the hoist is a 33 chrysler CT 3 window coupe. Runs great, no rust. Below it a 50 cadillac 61 series short wheelbase coupe converted to a convertible, wind up windows and 3 on the tree. 30 Model A hot rod in progress with a 392 hemi sporting 4 48 webers. 49 cadillac woodie in progress, made from a 49 buick estate wagon, just used the woodie main body on a 49 cad frame and running gear. 48 olds 98 fastback with a great running flathead straight eight, and out of the picture a 40 cadillac 60 special 4 door chopped 3 inches and converted to a 3 window coupe, 51 cad rebuilt engine, 3 on the tree.
